I also like the Matrix soundtracks for hi-NRG writing. Strange, no...

I love soundtracks, and Spybreak! from the first one is on my playlist, so I don't think it's strange at all. :D Especially since that sort of music is great for those scenes (from what I've heard of the soundtracks, anyway).

I can zip some of my favorite Kingdom Hearts stuff for you and upload it tomorrow night when I'm off of the dialup connection for a little while.

As long as the music is only intended for a 24 hour preview period and then is removed from the computer it's legal to share music. At least that's the disclaimer on all the music sharing communities on LJ!

And oh yeah, definitely. I even have that disclaimer in my music request post at Lj. Best way to avoid legal trouble. ;)

Yeah, I joined, too. It just doesn't work well with dialup, though. And I was disappointed about them not having any songs from the Harry Potter bands. I wanted a preview.

I posted a link to the Draco and the Malfoys album in the first page of this thread, I think. I also have some Harry and the Potters that I could send. I think it might warrant a new thread - just for music recommendations. :)

It has that much of an effect on me, I know. Sometimes I can't sleep unless I have music on (but it has to be the right kind of music - I can't fall asleep to The Who or Kutless). And I can't stand silence or some other noises, so if playing music is what it takes to drown those out (and to keep me from being distracted by them when I should be writing), then yeah, it can be important.

Today at work, when I was bored out of my mind, turning on music actually helped the time go by a lot faster. I wish I had thought of it sooner than fifteen minutes before close. :P

I can't fall asleep unless I listen to music. Sometimes it's the radio (I can fall asleep listening to Disturbed, Nickelback and Greenday, yes) and sometimes it's a CD. When I write I often listen to Japanese pop, which isn't all that different from American stuff except it's in Japanese. ;) I usually can't write to English-language music, because I get a) distracted by the lyrics, or b) start writing down what I hear. Not good at all. But one thing I'm listening to now is the Wicked soundtrack, and I love it though I haven't seen the musical.

I've had limited exposure to J-pop, though what I heard definitely wasn't too hard on the ears. I'm not overall a fan of pop music though, so it's not something I'd probably listen to often. ^^; I About getting distracted by the lyrics - yeah, that's a problem for me too. I start singing along. xD

Me too! I have a talent (?) for memorizing lyrics, especially ones in English (the only language I know), so I can sing along to songs I've heard twice. Makes the radio tough to listen to after a while, hehe.

I love soundtracks to musicals, mostly because the singers are guaranteed to have good voices. :)

I don't have to know the lyrics to sing along - I just kinda hum and get distracted anyway. XD But a lot of times I sit there trying to figure out the harmony, which is the choir nerd in me surfacing. ;)

Being an ex-music major and a friend of many [I'm at a band camp right now in control of eleven girls aged 11 - 13 that I've got to spend all day with for a week...] I can honestly say that yes, it most definitely does have that much of an effect on my mood and my writing.

Things seem to go smoother and they usually sound better when I have music on that I enjoy than when I'm sitting there in "silence."

Music is moving. :]

Woah, just picked up a few new soundtracks, and Pearl Harbor (Hans Zimmer), The New World (James Horner), and Big Fish (Danny Elfman) are all great. I'll probably upload some songs from each... *glances at clock* later today. :)

To answer the first question, for me it is the essential cornerstone of creating my alternate realities. More than anything else it helps me deprive my senses of input from the outside world. Getting the music just right is as much an ingredient for me in writing as any other background work on the story.

To answer the second question, music has changed my life more than once. It's changed not only my mood but my entire perspective. I'm aurally susceptible to alteration, perhaps more than the norm. I wouldn't be anything close to sane without it.

Here's something to think about : Would you rather go blind, or go deaf?

I'd rather go deaf, personally. I could never give up writing.

i don't know what i write to the sound to
maybe i get distracted by the radio
it's either that, or i tune out the radio after a while.

Usually, I just put my very eclectic collection on shuffle and let it go when I'm writing. I've got everything from classical to J-Rock. When I really need specific sparks, it's Josh Groban, Enya, or the Pirates of the Carribean score. Of course, I've just gotten Michael Buble, Evanescence, and Nickel Creek over the last three months or so, so they might be mixed in this July :)

This year, I get the distincxt feeling I will be depending very heavily on PotC, considering my novel plot is about pirates. Ah, Pirates... :)

i'd rather go blind, to be honest.
i could still write - there's technology that allows you to speak and it types for you, if you aren't confident in your own typing abilities. i can tell that i grew up with computers because i never had to try / learn to type, but i can type with my eyes shut with no more typos than when i'm looking b/c i've done it so often...

but going deaf would kill me.
i would NEVER be able to live without music.
i don't know what i'd do if i had to give up playing the saxophone. :/

Well, I listen to almost everything while writing. But if someone is playing "live" for me, it'll work out best. That's why you'll be able to find me in the music-classroom monday (my friends are practising for a concert for a school Africa the whole day). I'll loan the laptop of one of them, plug in my USB-stick, and write, and listen, and write, and listen... That's live ;).

Deaf or Blind? It's hard to choose. At one side, I'd like to re-read what I've written, but on the other side, I can't live without music. It's really difficult, but I think I'd rather be blind. Not seeing my friends is harder than not hearing my friends.

Deaf or blind? I'd rather be blind. I've dealt with a few deaf people and it's amazing the number of people who talk to them like they're stupid just because they can't hear. The one's I've met could lip read (luckily because my sign language is non existant). I've never noticed a blind person being talked down to the way I've noticed it with deaf people.
I'd also go insane if I couldn't hear. Music, peoples voices and everything else. Sounds are more important to me than images are. Possibly because I have terrible eyesight anyway and have learned to cope with not being able to see properly (I wear contact lenses which give me perfect sight but often leave them out around the house and without them can't see anything but a blur).
