You remember the old custom status-y thing we used to be able to edit? Where yours says "JulNoWriMo Webmaster", Robert, but mine says something I wrote when I was sixteen... Could you clear that for me, or let me, or let me know if we still can, please?

:)

Yeah, after I upgraded the forum, I think that feature was lost. I'll look into getting it added again, but if I can't--then just send me a U2U with what you would like your status to be. :)

I think Moderator'd be the default, right? I don't mind - I just want rid of what I've got.

Thank you. :)

Edit: discussion came up in the Teen forums, and I'm pretty sure I asked last year, but what're the rules on language?

No, tolerated, filtered, etc.?

Foul language is okay to an extent... I don't like censoring. I think teen forums should be a little more kid-friendly, though... just in case.

I think that was the consensus - if you have to swear, do it elsewhere. (I couldn't get rid of the rhyme but I made the rhythm a little more discordant.)

Thank you.

Edit: a second thank you for the status-y thing. :D

one question-
what do the stars underneath my name mean? (yes, I realize I'm probably displaying my ignorance of computers/technology in general) And (how) do they change?

It's meaningless, really. The more you post, the more stars you have. It's really just a way to determine how long a person has been on the site (or just how much they like to talk). It's not a feature I created, just a feature that's included on most message board systems.

Also, multiple stars can also represent rank (myself and the other moderators have more stars than everybody else).

I can't get my avatar to show up. I have a picture on Photobucket, and there are a number of links listed for it, but all the ones I've tried to paste into my profile page just disappear. This is probably completely obvious and basic "Forums 101," but can anyone explain how to properly edit my profile so that my dumb little picture shows up?

I think there is a limit of 100 by 100 pixels for avatars, so make sure that the image you are trying to use does not exceed that limit.

Hope this helps.

Confused. Is everyone allowed to go into the nanowrimo chat room? Because I partipated in NaNo so I figured I could use it,
but was told to get off as soon as I logged on.

Everybody should be allowed in. Do you know who told you to get off? Some people there are not always the friendliest.

Hiya. In regard to JulNo's chatroom - how does that work? I don't already have an IRC, so.... Nothing's popping up, no applet or Windows message...I just have a blank box with a little x in the left corner. :( Suggestions?

Have you clicked on the "connect" button? I know that seems so simple, but for a long time I didn't notice it was there and was staring at the blank box as well.

I've known people to have issues with the on-site chat box [depending on their computer, most likely], though, and would suggest downloading a client if you're planning on being in the chat regularly. I used mIRC briefly and it was fairly nice, once I figured out how to get it running, but I use Trillian now because it runs AIM, MSN, YIM, and IRC [among others] all in the same program.

Sometimes a client works better, but not always.

Hi, I have a question. Last November I saw some NaNo participants on a forum with little bars in their signatures that displayed their current wordcounts. [They look like the ones under our usernames here.] It wasn't on a WriMo site, so I assume they could post it anywhere. Do we have those?

I only tend to look at the ones on the left. If you want something for your signature or a blog, you could always Google it... I did, but could only find NaNo specific ones. NaNo has Widgets, but I'm not sure we do...

I was wondering how you could use a picture that's a signature as I've made one to match my avatar. I've tried by putting:

Code:
[IMG]http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww251/burnt_toast3/JulNosig.jpg[/IMG]

into the signature box, but it doesn't show up. Do I need HTML turned on and if so how would I do this?

Thanks.

Edit: doesn't matter, silly me forgot to check the 'use sig?' box... *feels stupid*

It's in the "edit profile" option [which you can find up in the top right hand corner of the site], it won't show up until Robert has it activated though, so if you don't see it yet, don't panic; it'll be there soon.

It may be that somebody that uses the same internet service provider as you had been banned from the chat server. (I don't run the chat server though, so I don't know.)

Please let me know if you continue to have trouble. If you could paste the information that you receive into an e-mail and send it along to me at jsbulldog89@comcast.net, I could try to look into this issue further.
