Newbie Me

Hi everyone! *wave*
I'm new here.
I sort've bumped my way here from NaNoWriMo. This is a great idea - to do it in July.
Well... I've never tried this before - try to write down 50,000 words in one month, but I'm super duper excited to.
Throughout high school, I wrote a lot and I always entered in those silly writing contests and stuff. I've kept a jounal since.. well.. forever.
=P
my writing had been dying lately but after a reference from a friend to NaNoWriMo's forums... i felt like taking up the challenge - but NOvember is a difficult time for me.
So I was extremely grateful to find this place.
um...
so yeah
=P
tell me about yourselves?
;) I'd like to get to know the people here.

Hey vitamin_D!

*waves* I'm new here too... This is also my first time trying to write 50,000 words in a month. I meant to do Nano this past year, but I was too busy with school (actually, I don't think I even noticed it was November. I kind of jumped from, "oh, it's October, I've got pleny of time," to "Oh my word! It's the end of December! I missed it!").

Hey! Glad you joined us. :)

My name's Robert. I'm a high school student living in Pennsylvania, USA. I did NaNoWriMo in 2004 (wow, that long ago), and I wrote about 600 words over 50,000! That was back when I had more free time. In 2005, I managed about 10,000 words.

Anyway, I basically run the web site and forums for JulNoWriMo, while Victoria manages all the participants and sends out the e-mails, etc. I had planned to write in July last year, but I ended up working on the forums and enjoying my summer. This year, I'm going to Australia for most of July, so I'm not even going to try. Besides, I have two unfinished novels already.

So, yeah. I'm a wimp. :D

Basically, JulNoWriMo has the same rule as NaNoWriMo: we go on your honesty. There's no official word counter like on NaNoWriMo, though. If you say you passed the 50,000 word mark, then as far as anybody knows, you did. You don't get anything special, though, besides a great feeling of accomplishment! (And maybe a certificate to print out, who knows what I'll think of next...)

Hey all. Found this place through LiveJournal, where I go by obi_wansgirl (but I "write" at getoffmyspleen). 18 year old going into my second year of college of U-M Dearborn, unfortunately with zero English and/or writing classes in the upcoming semesters (that's what I get for majoring in a science ;)).

Hopefully this'll be the kick in the pants I need to get my muse going again. I tried NaNo for the first time last year and managed about 10,000 words with a fanfiction-based novel.

Hello.

I'm a 15 year old from Australia. Currently in yr 10, which isnt bad, and most fortunately I'm doing Literature and Language rather than mainstream english which means alot more creative writing.

This will be my first WriMo (what am I doin?!?) Haha. Decided to do it because I need the motivation.

There's a point, what keeps you motivated to write? Nothing but a good muse/idea helps me.

Regarding motivation, silentgoldeneyes, trying to force myself to write 50,000 tends to at least get me started. If the muse doesn't catch though, I fall pretty short (like, say, 10,000). ^^; Seems like I need some motivation too. xD

I have just met you and I love you.

hi there everyone! glad to see this place is more lively than our LJ community.

Anyhow, I'm Erin a 20 year old who just passed the halfway mark in my college career! Woo. Now that I've got two major changes under my belt [from music to science and now I'm a double language major in English and Spanish], hopefully I'll be able to get through the last two! :]

Friends [or just finding someone on a site like this who seems to be good at keeping high word counts] keep me motivated. I don't like being second best and pretty much turn this into a competition - if I come out ahead then good for me!

For those who can't participate in July this year, how's August? A livejournal friend of mine and I started a WriMo community for August, since a lot of people are on vacation and such in July. We don't have forums or anything, but I'm hoping to keep the community pretty active, at least from June - September. The community is called AugNo if you'd like to search for it...

We also are running an editing month for those of us writing in summer WriMos in September, which also has a community on LJ [which is, sadly, pretty dead since no one has written anything to be edited yet] and that one is called NaNo_EdMo.

:] Thanks for listening to my intro and my shameless self-promotions. I really hate doing that, but how else is anyone else going to hear about them, you know?

I'm trying in the Lj community... but same as around here, you can't really keep it going by yourself. I talk to myself enough in real life. ;) I might try the editing communities, but that depends on how far the actual writing gets. ^^;

Is it a LiveJournal community? If it is, then I can't join. If not, the I'll think about it, although I'll still probably be busy working, running, and such.

Yeah, it is a LJ community. We're both on LJ, so it was just the easiest way for us to run it. :[ Sorry 'bout that. Maybe if all goes well this year, I'll suggest we get forums / a REAL website sometime.

I think there is one in January, too - at least on LJ there is... yeah, the name of the community is: janowrimo

I posted in the July comm at the beginning of June and got either zero or one reply, so I decided it wasn't really worth my time and put my effort back into the AugNo community.

Hiya! I was here for JulNoWriMo last year and very nearly lost, because a lymphoma was found in my husband's stomach at the start of July and he had to start chemotherapy. I had to scrap what I was working on and write frenzied free-form stories to keep myself sane. Well, mostly sane. My husband's health deteriorated throughout the year, ending with his death in mid-December, but I still managed to complete NaNoWriMo last year as well.

Now I'm back, I'm optimistic, and I won't let anything stand in the way of my 50,000 words in July. If not for writing I truly would not be in this world right now. Writing drives me and sustains me. I'm looking forward to this new challenge!

Me, ob1sgirl??

'Cause, that's like, awesome.

I was thinking as I wrote out what I did that even though my challenges weren't superlative in July or November, maybe it would inspire someone to rip through their own problems, face down reality, and just write their hearts out. I know when I read about people overcoming odds sometimes it makes me try just a little harder. I want everyone who tries at this to win, because it's just such a great feeling to win, and I hope I can encourage people in any way possible to meet their goals. I'm gonna be a cheerleading squad for all you excellent people! If that's okay, that is. :D

But hey, you're back, and you're willing to try again, x_hypocampus! Good for you. Jobs can be pretty time-consuming and unexpected burdens. I only work part-time, so most of my obstacles were emotional rather than temporal. I had trouble in November particularly finding the drive to keep going, since I was suffering from a lot of anxiety and depression at the time, but my natural stubbornness turned out to be an asset.

The fact that your back again hints to me that you've got some hidden stubbornness of your own. So go for it! I'm in your corner, cheering you on. You can do it!
