I'm Giving Up.

I've had enough of my novel. I can't write more than a hundred words at a time, I've not made it past 1,500 in a day (and that was only the first day - not even made it to 500 a day since then).

So, I'm going back to my favourite ever characters, the ones I created when I was twelve. Because I've always got a story about them.

Right now, I can write one of two novels about them. One option is the one I started when I was thirteen and never finished, and the other is the one I'm starting after this post - and completely appropriate, in a way I don't want to explain. I'll be back here later this evening, when hopefully I'll've written a good 10,000 words. I'm really going for it now.

Wish me luck. :D

This could just be awesome.

The Waterboy is awesome. For Adam Sandler films, though, Little Nicky is still my favourite.

Anyway, planning is over, I'm going to hide in my room and stay up all night writing. I do that occasionally, when I'm really into it. Well, I've never managed all night, but once until the sun came up, anyway (which was just before 6am). Then I crawled out of bed at 10 and carried on. I only stopped because I fell asleep while writing. The other couple of times I made it 'til 4am or later.

As long as you're writing, you haven't given up. You've just... shifted your priorities. ;)

Still, there are peopel who've done the whole 50k in just a weekend. O.o How they do it, I do not know.

But: Rah, rah, sis boom bah! You can do it! *Waves pom-poms*

Good luck! :) I'm sure you can make it, as long as you like your story and characters. I know I wouldn't be able to write half as fast if I weren't completely in love with my plot.

Good luck! :) I hope you make it. I'm not really trying anymore... 25k is a good word count for me. I wanted to win, but I don't have the desire to lock myself in my room any longer this summer.

I've changed my mind about what I'm doing again. Its just occurred to me. But you'll have to tell me if I can't do this though.

I've got four novels now (the 2k of Freedom Fighter, first few hundred words of August, 52k of The Shepherd and 60k of Cassandra) - so I'll just dip into those and keep a tab of what I write. Although really I'll be working on the first two - mostly August.

Which takes my new July word count to... About 6k, I'd guess. Anyway, I want to be in the top 100 on the word count list today. Which shouldn't be a problem - I have absolutely nothing to do.

Edit: Oh - thank you. I think I said before, you're all lovely. :D

Well I feel just lost. I am so stuck. I don't know my characters. This is all so frustrating. Everyne else is miles ahead of me in word count and there's only 5 days left.

I've done what I always do, start with and opening scene which is interesting and has the potential to move forward but I don't feel like I've gotten to the meat of my story.

6 people tranplanted back to 19th century London. How, Why and Will they come home? You'd think there would be a lot of material there, but I just can't get them out of the pubs and doing stuff!!!

Thank you for letting me vent. Does this count for my word count? :)

You could still totally make it! I believe in you!
Lemme try and help get the creative juices flowing:
These characters, what are their relations to each other? Are they complete strangers, relatives, friends, lovers?
What kind of conflict is there within the group itself? Is she cheating on him with him? Does him and her have opposite views on ___? Does one of them want to stay, and one of them want to go back? Did one of them get the group into this situation for ulterior reasons? Profit of his own perhaps?
And as for action, that's where I always have problems. Try this:
What needs to happen in the story? Do they need to get home? How would they start investigating their predicament? Is there someone they could go to, somewhere they could go to? Do things impede their quest to find a way back home? Why? Is there someone stopping them on purpose? Is there some reason for them to be back in time? Someone who wanted to see them?
As for character development, I like to give my characters hooks until I figure them out. Ex:
One of your characters is a history nerd, and is enjoying the whole experience. One of the girls is shallow and just wants a shower. One of the boys/girls things he/she's really tough, and wants to try to be a knight or keeps getting in bar fights. One guy is a financial whiz and wants to use his knowledge of future events for a profit. One of the characters has OCD and refuses to eat or touch anything. One of your characters is a tinkerer/mechanic, and wants to find their way to a workshop. One of the characters is some sort of quantum physics scientists, and keeps trying to figure things out.

I hope this helps! Keep writing, you totally have enough time!!!!!!!!!!

Me, I pretty much gave up after 2 weeks of writer's block leaving me only 5 days to write 45,000 words. Oh well. Can't win every wrimo, though I've had a string of victories since FebNo.

One complicating factor is that I've been writing a second draft, meaning not all of it was new scenes. Much of it was rewrites. But I did have some great ideas for new scenes and those I've planned but not yet written, and I'll write them anyway, just not this month.

I'm continuing to rewrite Bad Company. But I won't join AugNo to do it.

Congratulations to everyone else! I stayed up until 11:57 to boost my word count as far as I could and I have sheets of paper of scenes written while I watched both Kill Bill films back to back (I needed something to put on in the background that was about three and a half hours long...)
