Robin McKinley or Markus Zusak. Both great authors, and both thankfully still alive and churning out new books. :)

Three favourites: Mario Puzo, Margaret Atwood, Margaret George.

Also a fan of Thomas Hardy, Charlotte Bronte, Oscar Wilde (maybe he should be on top...), Alison Weir (her too), Giltrap (:D)...

While I LOVE Harry Potter and Narnia, my favorite author would have to be Agatha Christie. I'm absolutley in love with all of her books, and the clever way she crafts mysteries.

Neither am I. You can't make a fair poll out of that question though - if everyone on the forums listed theirs, there'd be hundreds easily.

By a very narrow margin...of the three, C.S. Lewis. But my all-time fave is J.R.R. Tolkien. At the moment, I'm also currently obsessed with Lloyd Alexander, Stephenie Meyer, Diane Duane, and Alison Croggon (Pellinor series).

Fave author? Wow. Ok, in no particular order, and as much as I can remember right now: Orson Scott Card, Tamora Pierce, Terry Pratchett, Anne McCaffrey, Diane Duane, C.S. Lewis (his Space Trilogy is awesome), T.A. Barron, Eoin Colfer, Jonathon Stroud, Ursula K. LeGuin, and a hundred others.

Clive Barker

Stephen King

and

Edgar Allan Poe.

J.K's alright- but I was surprised the author of the poll didn't at least put in Stephen King. He's one of the greatests.

Robin Hobb is the single best author in the world!

No, seriously, I like her work, and many others as well, too many to name. But my favorite is Robin Hobb, followed closely by L. E. Modessitt Jr.

Pick one? Impossible. Can't be done.

Terry Pratchett, Stephen King, Mercedes Lackey, and George Orwell would have to top the list of prose writers.

I've only seen Neil Gaiman's work with the comic version of Neverwhere, but since it sent delighted little chills down my spine his prospects are good.

And Warren Ellis. Because Spider Jerusalem is awesome, and I wanna grow up to be just like him. *Starry eyes*

Poppy Z. Brite, Christopher Rice and Anne Rice (her early works) are tops on my list, but that's just the first few names that come to mind. I'm just starting to get into Augusten Burroughs and Woody Allen.
