For the super curious: What are you writing about?

I always love the threads where people describe what they're going to be writing about. It definitely inspires me and makes me want to work harder on my own project. So, what are you planning to write about for JulNoWriMo this year?

So far, my plot involves the MCs from my last three Nano's (all admirable failures), as well as a character that has been bouncing around in my head for a while. I'm going to take the plots from their respective 'novels' and turn them into backstory. From there, I'm going to throw them all together in a camp as counselors (it's summer after all) and see what they think of each other. Should be exciting, to say the least.

Your turn!

My novel is (and this is as much as, if not more than, I'm telling anyone) about a girl called Eva. Throughout the novel she goes by different names and she is the only truly consistent character - most of the others appear in no more than two of her incarnations (she has three).

Society has changed - I haven't decided how, or why, but think a little Nazi Germany influence - and Eva basically finds herself on the side of the resistance, which her brother was a major part of until his arrest. And its really about what this society does to a young girl. But a little more interesting.

That's definitely more than I've told anyone.

The title of the novel is Freedom Fighter. Nobody else knew that - that's it, its set in stone. And the first line, said by Eva's father:

"One man's terrorist is another man's hero."

There we go. Thank you for this thread. Its got me on track. This is why I'm posting in both the historical/realistic threads of the genre forum. I'm trying to have a bit of both. I'm basing the three countries I'm using on Britain, France and Germany, but there are literary and Spanish, Italian and American history influences.

I like your plot, Breezy. I'd love to get all my characters together in one story. Unfortunately I kill them all - well most of them. Unless... what if I set it in the afterlife? Or my characters were reincarnated? Hmmm... I don't think I will though. Too much work, too much imagination.

Wow, yours sounds really interesting too! I don't know if I'd ever be able to handle anything that complicated, especially for a challenge like Julno. Good luck, thanks for sharing, and I'd love to read it someday.

A pyromaniac. :D

Yeah, her name's Lark, and when she burns down something (either her father's barn or her family's house), she gets really scared of the repercussions and runs away, joining the military. She gets shipped off to a foriegn continent to fight in the war there. I'm definitely trying to avoid being unoriginal - most obvious is the Mulan-influenced plot - and so Lark is, of course, a pyro, as well as being a somewhat-sheltered, self-centered brat. Eventually she's not quite so self-centered or naive, but she's still not someone I'd like to meet in real life.

Not too much for plot except there's war and all that jazz. :) It's called Lark's War. This would be my third draft of it - I wrote it for NaNo in 2005 and April Fools in 2007.

Goodness, Soubriquet, your story sounds fascinating. (My sister's name is Eva, and I had a German exchange student with that name too, so it made me laugh a bit. Also, your first line sounds quite a bit like V for Vendetta, which is my favorite movie, so kudos to you for that.)

And, geez, Breezy, your story sounds like so much fun to write! I think that's a great idea - I just might do that sometime. It'd be a great WriMo. :D

I've never seen V for Vendetta. I think we've got in on DVD though somewhere in the house. I like the sound of your novel too, rebeldork. I love novels where the focus is really on one character and how they develop. I suppose I'm trying to reflect that a little. Not a whole lot though - the other characters are important, they're just not there that often. I planned a little of the penultimate section this morning. There are seven, plus a prologue and epilogue. I'm getting giddy with yWriter. :D

Would you recommend yWriter? I've been researching it and I'm not sure. Does it take up a lot of file space or anything like that? This being a family computer, and not primarily mine, I always have to think very hard about things like this.

I would absolutely reccomend it. I actually have no idea how much space it takes up... only that I'm using a family computer as well and my dad doesn't seem to have a problem with it. It's such a useful interface for me. It keeps everything organized so well, which is definitely something I need during a time as crazy as a WriMo.

Basically, it's my new best friend.

I downloaded it, but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

Anyway, getting us back on topic, my novel that I will be working on is a Young Adult novel that I've kind of started already, but haven't gotten very far. Umm, not quite sure what it's even going to be about yet, honestly. Hah.

Either putting another 50k towards my last NaNo, or writing a comedy. The comedy would be about a high school student who writes a musical about the Manson Family, the people cast in it, and the various shenanigans that go down when it's performed.

Okay okay, I'm not entirely sure yet, but I want to get out of my comfort genre of realistic fiction. My first NaNo novel was realistic fiction and I got 30K on it but it's not finished. I still have it and maybe one day I'll finish it. Maybe my WriYe challenge for 2009. But I want to do fantasy this time around. Maybe an urban fantasy. I've been toying with the idea for a bit.

I will be writing the epic tale of Corzir L'Apaneau Devion, who has a bad habit of being kidnapped for no reason, and falling victim to all the cliches - shipwrecked on a deserted island, joins an underground resistance, the evil guy is actually his brother, etc.

I'm going to continue off of the story I lost nano with *sigh* :embarrassed:.

I love the main characters I'm using, and I based a few ideas off of that old 80's/90's cute movie "Drop Dead Fred". (wait, don't leave yet!- Let me explain!) The story is about this girl who never had any friends, and who had, instead, an imaginary friend up until she was well into her teens. Then, something happened- and eventually, her life is in such a mess that she falls asleep while driving, and instead of going to jail for doing what she did (crashing on the side of the road), she ends up in a mental institution. As she's there, to only compound her every problem, her imaginary friend, who she never knew existed before (she had her memory of him taken away for a reason I'm not ready to reveal yet) has come back to try to cheer her back up- and to, eventually, get her to escape with another patient. He, too, has his own secrets.

I think it'll be a cute little romance story (eventually), and I do not believe nobody's ever tried to match up a neurotic woman with her imaginary friend before. I give myself a pat on the back for that one, thank you very much... :P

Mad Red Queen, that sounds like a great idea! Only thing that confuses me a little--can you really go to jail for just falling asleep at the wheel and crashing along side the road? That seems a little funny to me, but probably not that big of a deal.

I think that you can get fined for it, so maybe if you can't pay the money you'll have to serve time...
I came up with my idea last night. It's about a teenager that has gone missing, and the reactions that people in her community give.
It'll be much more exciting than you would think, though.
Leevee, I definitely need to read yours.

Yours sounds pretty good, too, Maroon. As for mine... well, it's only the rough draft. When I write rough drafts, I tend to keep research to a minimum. I'll clean everything up once I re-write it.

Leevee, I'd definitely buy that. I hope it goes brilliantly and you get published and it's in every store so that I CAN buy it.

I don't really know what I'm doing. I have a couple of characters, a vague idea of a setting, and not much else. I do have antagonists though, which is more than usual.

I try to avoid committing to plots that require research, because for some reason I try to research before starting, and I fret so much that I don't have enough of it to the point where I just toss the idea. >.<

I have a very bare-bones plot right now, so I guess I'll be seeing where it takes me. ;)

My story is about a group of five girls who make a help squad to...well...help people around the town. Then a girl none of them know appears out of nowhere and starts messing up things around the city. They have to fix everything and try to get her to stop.

It gets less realistic as it goes on. I'd say more, but it'd be spoilers. :P

I actually have never won a writing challenge yet. But I\'ll never give up!

I'm planning on writing a zombie story. It doesn't sound like the most original idea in the world, I'll give you that, but I plan on making it more original than all the other predictable movies you see. I think I've got most of the main points outlined, I'll just need to add a few things in between that I'll have to think up as I go 8)

The only thing I'm really not sure about is the ending, which is annoying, because I have a really good ending for a zombie story -- it just doesn't fit with the way I'm going to write this one. Which sucks, because I don't have a beginning or a middle for the other one xD

I had a few other ideas for stories but they involved a fair bit of research, and seeing as this is my first WriMo of any kind, I definitely wanted to stick to something that didn't involve lots of checking things out to take away from the writing time, aha.

I am going to write a very complicated story. It has three different lines in time and each has its own subplots...

First line would be in year 2024. Main character is a young woman, who cares very much about our planet. As so many important companies and even governments are abusing it severely, she has joined ecoterrorists- rather large group of people who want to save Earth, no matter what the price is. Ecoterrorists' biggest act is going to take place very soon. She is driven to despair, mostly because she doesn't know if she'll be alive after that. We also learn about her previous life... which can be quite interesting.

The second line is in year 2047. The catastrophe is still going to happen. Actually it is happening and the main character of that line tries to escape to safety and also save her large, large group of relatives and friends. So many family secrets and dramas can and will reveal at this kind of time. And, of course, the sound of apocalypse in the background. Can't you hear it?

The third line is in year 3012. The humankind is still exists, but it is full of anger and despise and hatred. Women have no rights at all and whole society has divided to two: small group of aristocrats and large bunch of almost slaves. People who have developed slightly supernatural abilities, are abused. Not burnt, not killed, just used as we would use a lifeless tool. And when an aristocrat young man seduces a very smart girl of the common folk, the main character of this line, it can't end well...

That will be a lot of writing.....

NaNoWriMo 2007:The Journey of Seldlerne Sisters- 44 000 words, finally ended with 59070 words
JulNoWriMo 2008: Project Galarea- 30 284 word, unfinished
NaNoWriMo 2008: Ithildrian War- 50 300 words
