Mystery

I have been wondering if every mystery must have a murder. In theory it creates dramatic tension and a plot springboard - but murder is so dire. Anyone write mysteries without one?

Sure you can write a mystery without a murder, one of the idea's I'm playing with is to do with the mystery of a house that disappears overnight. Were there any people in it, if so what happened to them and how do you steal an entire house during the night.

Murder - attempted or successful - is pretty common but you can easily do one without it. Theft, disappearances and strange phenomena are other things you can cover.
