[Introductions] Hi, my name is...

My name is Robert, and I'm a 24-year-old software developer living in Seattle, Washington. I grew up on the east coast, where I spent ~18 years in Pennsylvania and the past ~5 years in upstate New York while attending college.

I enjoy running, reading, traveling, biking, and just generally wasting too much time on the internet, among many other hobbies. I stare at a computer screen 40+ hours a week for work, so I try to get out as much as possible at night and on the weekend. I'm not entirely sure yet if I'll be participating as a writer in this summer's competition.

This is my 10th year overseeing JulNoWriMo. Huh?

PS: It's fun starting this thread every year because I get to look back at the previous year's post and see how much my life has changed. Usually, I just end up copying the post and changing a few words around. I couldn't do that this year - I moved 2,500 miles last summer!

Heyy. :)
My name's Tina. I'm British and I'll be 22 by the time July comes along.

2014 is my seventh year participating in JulNo and my fifth year helping out.
  • In 2008 my computer commit suicide on July 4th and I lost everything. This completely killed my motivation and as a result that year I only managed a measly 4k.
  • In 2009 my aim was to make up for the previous years loss and I wrote a total of 104k on a politcal romance novel titled Cinderella Boy.
  • In 2010 my laptop died at 7pm on July 1st. Ironically, it decided to quit as I tried to change to a song called "DON'T U EVER STOP" on iTunes. I didn't get a replacement until mid-July and managed to win JulNo last year with three minutes to spare by writing 15,000 words on a realistic fiction novel, Decadence, on the final day between pet-sitting for multiple people.
  • In 2011 my aim was to write 50k to finish up my NaNo '10 novel: Black Lamb. I succeeded with this goal at 11:11pm on July 31st but most of the writing was crammed into the last week of the month.
In 2012 I wrote 50k on a project called Kalayaan while devoting any time I wasn't writing to Final Fantasy XIII.
  • In 2013 I focused my efforts on screenwriting. I wrote half the script for a TV series called Decadence (revamp of my JulNo 2010) in addition to writing the script for a twenty-five minute film called Say Goodbye that should be released in June 2014.

I'm actually taking a hiatus from most writing challenges due to health reasons, but I'm hoping to be able to dedicate some time to this over the summer.

Outside of writing I spend most of my time: socialising, listening to music, and following foreign television shows. I'm also an avid reader (is there a writer who isn't?) and my favourite genres are horror and psychological thriller. When not wasting time my life seems to be dedicated to video games.

Looking forward to speaking with everyone again and meeting new members. Let's make this July better than the last! ;)

Hello~ I'm Melange or Mel, a 21-year-old student of Japanese language & culture in Vienna, Austria. This year will be my fourth JulNo. :]

In 2011 I wrote a psychological thriller titled Salt Cliff, in 2012 a surreal romance novella titled Last Light and in 2013 a dystopian novel titled Red Pigeons, hitting my goal of 50k during all three years. I mostly write realistic fiction or magical realism, but also like to experiment with other genres from time to time. Small wonder my favorite writer of all time is Haruki Murakami.

When not writing or reading, I'm usually listening to Asian music, watching anime, memorizing kanji or actually socializing.

Nice to meet you (again)! Looking forward to July, the words and the people!

Hi! I think this is my first time actively participating in the event. I signed up last year, but had a significant health crisis that required me to drop out basically right at the starting line.

I'm a 27 year old soon-to-be college grad with a degree in Japanese linguistics. Looking forward to finishing a novel between JuNoWriMo and this event! And if I end up finishing early, I have two other works in the outlining stage.

My current project has a horrific name, Wolf Cub, Plum Blossom but is a story set in East Asia in an alternate reality. There is magic, shapeshifters, language barriers, and rude awakenings. It's a coming of age/adventure story.

My second project, tentatively titled Halfway House, is about a halfway house set up for people in an occupied country who are living under observation before being allowed to reintegrate into society. It's a murder mystery, but I haven't decided who the murderer kills, though.

My third project is an old draft burned to the ground and started over with the few characters I didn't kill off in rewrites, and a completely different premise. The working title on that one is Zombie Dance, but it really needs a new name. The zombies were also burned with fire.

And wow. Apparently i am a really old member. I need to update my signature. I don't even remember that book.

Hi, I'm Tatra! I've been writing zombies for Julno since 2009. XD I like writing about zombies in July because by now it's a full tradition and it's fun coming up with interesting ways of writing them.

I actually got my novel idea, Prescott Dormitory, last year. The characters and hint of a plot came to me in a series of short stories that I did after finishing my 2013 Julno, Homicide Victims Rarely Talk to Police. So this year I'm expanding the idea into a novel. It's basically a bullying situation gone wrong plus zombies. XD

Zombies aren't as good as bacon.

Hello, I am a Liz. :D Rawr zombie July is about where my brain is about now. I also write zombies and last year... I don't remember what happened last year and can't find where there is stuff on my computer. I remember finishing a vampire novel last year around this time, but nothing else. Oops.

I'm usually (usually being the last two years) at a writer's workshop sometime during July and this year is no exception. Only this year it's a weekend instead of a week and it's more about generating new ways to write your words vs working on past stuff.

Le plan this year is Snow White with Zombies and Other Twisted Tales. I say this because I'm not sure if I can stretch just Snow White into 50,000 words, so I'm thinking about adding in other fairy tales with supernatural elements. It'll be fun!

Right now, back to cheering on the Blackhawks for this Cup thingie.

Heyo, I'm Grace and I've only participated in JulNoWriMo last year and I'm hoping to do it this year. It went pretty well for me last year and I'm hoping that it'll be the same this year so fingers crossed!

I'm quite bad at planning out my stories because I just prefer going with the flow, which isn't great because, you know, it makes it harder to pump out chapters on such a short schedule and stuff but I try. I've tried writing original fiction but I generally don't have much time for it, or I lose patience in it or I just get bored. Really, there's many reasons why it doesn't work out but that's a story for another time.

I'm actually kind of prepared for this year because I'll be working on something that I really love and hopefully, I'll have enough written in order to satisfy me.

hi everyone! i'm erin, 28, and living in central florida. i've been doing julno since 2006 [nine years for those who are counting]. i honestly can't remember when i started helping out as a mod here, but it's been a while. i mean that in all of the best ways, of course, because next to augno and wriye, julno is locked in a three-way-tie for my favorite writing event. and i'm a little biased with the other two...

outside of that? i work way too many hours in retail and spend the majority of the rest of my time either online or playing video games. that sounds about like my entire life. ;]

for julno i'm doing something with zombies, i think? i almost always do something zombie-related for julno, but i'm TERRIBLE about finishing them, so i'm thinking maybe this year i'll just work on the projects i've already got going. i've got some ~secret goals and plans~ for that, but until i see how far i manage to get, they'll stay secret.

anyway, looking forward to another year of nomming brains and hanging out on the forums!

Hi, I'm Misa, I'm not telling you how [very] old I am, and I live in the UK (Bolton fwiw). I'm a full-time author, which basically translates to writing between chatting on Twitter and playing games on Facebook. I have stuff published - check my website out if you're so inclined.

When I manage to put my laptop down, I like to knit and crochet. I've just passed my basic motorcycle training, so I need to get out on that more. I'm also teaching myself bass guitar.

By July, I hope to have gotten the last two shorts of Amazing Grace done and off to my publisher, which will leave me free to concentrate on two projects for JulNo:
  • The Hollow Men is a sci fi horror about a space mission that goes horribly wrong when the crew are exposed to an alien virus, turning them into zombies.
  • Genesis Dusk is a sci fi romance written during NaNo 2009. Any time not spent on writing THM will be redrafting/editing GD.

Aaand that's about it. Looking forward to July! :)

Yo, I'm Briana. This is my fifth Julno!

2010/2011: Worked on Way Out There, I finally finished it a couple of months ago. But now it needs immense editing and I'm already reading it over, crying about how terrible it is (and truth be told I'm not even really that interested in the story anymore :embarrassed: ).

2012: Worked on Indefinite. Trying to finish it up before Julno, doubt it though. But very close to completing!

2013: I intended to write, but wrote nothing (for the life of me I don't remember what happened that July--I was going through slight depression at the time so I blanked out a lot of that summer).

As for this Julno, sequel to Indefinite, maybe? There's this repeating line haunting my mind, begging to be the opening sentence for the novel. Can't ignore it.

What do I do besides writing? Scrolling through Tumblr, tweeting & deleting my tweets, obsessing over Bleach, and watching let's plays of video games.

Recent college grad in the beginnings of figuring out the rest of my life. I'm looking forward to another summer of writing to get me back into the swing of things!

I mostly write fanfiction, though one of my goals this year is to do some more of my own work. I'm still not sure exactly what I am doing this summer for JulNo, but we shall see.

Hey everyone! I'm Sadie and this is my fourth year doing JulNo. I'm 16, a soon-to-be junior in high school, and I live in middle-of-nowhere rural/suburban New Jersey. When I put down my computer and stop writing, I like listening to music (especially musical theatre), watching various TV shows and movies, and reading books by writers far more talented than I.

I keep coming back even though I've never won:

2011: Stage Lights - children/YA comedy about a group of teenagers who decide to write, rehearse, and perform a play in one month. (8K)

2012: New Ways to Fall Apart - YA/NA realistic drama/tragedy about four best friends, one of whom is killed in a car accident, and how the other three live with the knowledge that they may have indirectly caused her death. (~ 40K)

2013: Collateral Damage - NA realistic tragedy about a young woman's suicide attempt and the toll it takes on her family, particularly her boyfriend and younger sister. (~ 35K)

I have some very basic ideas for my story this year, but I still have to work on all the details. I'm probably going to revive and completely revamp a story I wrote when I was about 12, which means it's my first time writing fanfiction in almost 3 years. Let's see how I do.

Hi! My name is Kirsty. I'm 20 years old and I'm from the south England.

I'm an undergraduate English Literature student who spends most of her time reading Postmodernist novels, drinking Mexican beer and tackling gender stereotyping. I work on a trade counter every weekend, although I know absolutely nothing about DIY. (I much prefer arts and crafts). One day I hope to teach, travel and open my own ethnic jewellery store. (No kidding).

I have never done NaNoWriMo before, nor have I done JulMoWriMo either, but I figured that this July might just be a good opportunity for me as I (for once) actually have a story idea in mind. In terms of authors, I'm a huge fan of John Green, Chuck Palahniuk and Bret Easton Ellis. I probably emulate their styles frequently when I write, but that's mostly down to the fact that I'm usually reading one of their novels at the time (when I'm not reading anything by George R. R. Martin, of course).

I'm keen on adventuring, and found I often had a lot to say about my day-to-day life, so I made a blog called "Out of bed, out of mind" as this most aptly describes my disposition. Please feel free to have a read if you're passing.

Otherwise, I wish everyone luck on their JulNoWriMo adventures!

Hi everybody!
My name is Matanda. I'm 21 years old and I'm an undergrad (English major, Theater minor) from Bear, DE. Whenever I'm not blogging or backing up loads of ideas on Google Drive, I'm hosting my radio show Mahou Kunoichi (Fridays 10-11:15am EST) and playing console games. I'm very passionate about otaku culture and film as well. I'm an intercultural & interfaith advocate despite my private appearance.

I've done 2 NaNos ('12 & '13) but JulNo was the first one I discovered since I thought novel-writing during the school year was nuts (even though I did it twice). I missed my word count - I underestimated 1-3k words per day! ^_^; JulNoWriMo's more ideal since it's during the summer and the best part is that you can set your personal record. I've also been considering a pen name since my real name's rather unusual.

Since I've been out of the lengthy writing scene for a while, I'm personally aiming for a novella this time (about 25-30k). But that doesn't mean I'm not open to novel-length work! :) I'm thinking of reworking last year's NaNo plot and finally get it to the length it deserves.

Best of luck to all the writers and thanks in advance for the support! Feel free to check out my blogs and radio show whenever you need a break. :)

Hello!
My name is Faye. I'm 20 years old, and I'm from England. I've just finished my second year at university, studying Biology.

My first NaNoWriMo was 8 years ago, in 2006. I won in 2006 (although my 'novel' was so crap I don't really class it as a win any more), lost 2007, won 2008, lost 2009, won 2010, won 2011, and didn't participate in 2012 and 2013. I won JulNo in 2010 and 2011, but I only got about 16k in 2012 and I don't think I even tried in 2013. But I'm going to try again this year!

I'm unhealthily obsessed with one series that I've been working on on-and-off for years, and nearly every WriMo I've ever done has been related to that series. I probably should try to write something different eventually... but it is not this day. This JulNo I think I'm going to re-draft the first book in the series. For the last few years I haven't taken writing very seriously and I only really write during WriMo months, or when I have a random flash of inspiration (which isn't often.) I really want to try to write more. This series has lived inside my head for so long, and it deserves to finally be written properly.

When I'm not daydreaming about fictional characters, I aimlessly browse tumblr (my tumblr is livetogetherdieaclone.tumblr.com if you're interested). I watch a lot of TV, and I knit stuff sometimes. I like listening to musical soundtracks, and mid-2000s pop-punk music.

Hallo!

I'm Mokano7/Orion S./Alex depending on what art form you're looking at. I am a photographer, music producer, and writer and just graduated high school. Uni plans are tentative. I may decide to apply to the Kansas City Art Institute because the admissions guy who looked at my portfolio told me it was pretty amazing, but I don't know yet.

As for previous writing challenges, there are quite a few. I've done every NaNo event, Camps and all, for the past 4 years and haven't failed yet. This year will be my first on the JulNo forums (thanks @Melange ), but last year's July Camp turned out to be a big waste of time. I wrote 75.000 words in a novel I threw away after NaNoWriMo 2013 in favour of a new, restructured plotline. This year also marks the first time I am attempting a WriYe challenge (going for the big million). Because of the insane writing marathon that WriYe is, I honestly haven't got an inkling of what I'm actually going to end up writing next month.

Concerning hobbies, writing, photography, and music production are three, but I also spend a fair amount of time gaming and spinning live mixes (find me on either soundcloud,.com or mixcloud.com as Mokano7). Sadly, I have not had the time lately with everything else that's been going on to do a lot of reading and finding contemporary fiction that meets my expectations has become increasingly more difficult.

That's about it I guess. Well, besides the projected release date for my second full-length album Ambient 2 [The Elements] which should be up no later than the 15th of July.

Hi, I'm Kwills/Kell/hey you (take your pick). I'm 32 years old, living in England, and writing my second "proper novel" in July. Provided I can get some with the latest edit on my *first* novel, of course.

I write in many different genres, formats and styles. Maybe I'm looking for my niche, maybe I'll end up making my own. Or maybe I have commitment issues?

One thing I am committing to it to write at least 50,000 words in July. That won't see my book finished, but it will give me a good start on it, so I can hopefully finish for real in August. Nice to meet all you lovely people, I look forward to chatting with you throughout the month - either here, or over at Steve.

Greetings ~
I'm Claudia. I'm 27 and already graduated from college. Writing is my passion and my stress relief. I also do a little bit of drawing and watercolors. Most of the art I do is digital now-a-days. I've participated in NaNoWriMo and JulNoWriMo before, but I only won once. The last NoWriMo I did was in 2011. That's the year I won; if I recall right the manuscript was only a little over 50k.

I didn't do much writing in the last couple years, but recently decided I needed an outlet and a project. I picked up my old manuscript, decided there wasn't much I could salvage and began a new project. In the loosest sense, it's a re-writing of my 2011 story. The manuscript is already pretty far along so I thought I might use this JulNoWriMo to write some side stories.

My stories take place in a fantasy world, but they're all (same-sex) love stories. I'm planning to post them on my blog if I managed to finish them. ^_^;

Hi guys! My name is Whitney. I'm a 23 (almost 24) English teacher. I attempted JulNo in 2010. I was still in college then. I came SO CLOSE to making the 50k word count (although not quite as close to actually finishing the story), but missed out by a busy end-of-the-month. I hope to return to that story…someday.

Last time, I had a story in mind. This time, not so much. We'll see how it goes!

Teaching is a VERY BUSY career if you didn't know, so I don't get to read or write for pleasure nearly as much as I should, or would like. I will pretty much read anything. I used to be "classics snob" but am trying to read more YA fiction because of my job. This year's novel may turn out to be YA. Who knows?

Also….if anybody knows what my username is alluding too….I will be super impressed and you will have my respect forever XD hehehe

Hi! I'm Theresa

I'm back for another July go around :).

This year I have 2 stories to focus on, both fanfiction.

1. Division - which is a science fiction/fantasy/spook story. I have several pages of it already, want to finish quickly but am coming up on the rough spots in the middle.

2. Baby - which is an old romance/spook story that I started years ago and have never finished.

Plus, reading about these zombie stories in progress make them sound really interesting.... Oh, look, plot bunnies! (with guilt over not participating in BLITEOTW, when I made a big deal over it online.)

I am making writing a daily habit again. I miss it when I don't, but things love to get in the way, as everyone knows XD.

So take care, all, and keep writing!

Theresa

Hi! AnnNoE here. I've done this and other NaNo's before, and I'm "old as grit". This year I'm working on a paranormal/ghost story that involves two generations of psycho killers and an old cottage at the beach and the southern California coast line.

I just published last year's "Aurora" project as "The Aurora UFO Incident - A Novel" in June.

If I had advice to give to anyone, it is this: Don't wait until you think your dues are paid to make your mark in this world. You were born; your dues are paid. Follow your dreams now!

Besides writing, I'll be working on promotion this month. Gotta get that book out there!

When I'm writing, I'm happy.
Happy now. :)

Hi everyone,

My name is marielaurent2221 but everyone can call me Marie. This is my fifth time doing julno. I am writing three novels this year not much fan fiction except a few.

I'm a reader of a variety of novels though sometimes mostly YA and romance novels besides reading fanfics. I plan to publish this year hopefully and make some money for my family.

My goal is 60k but I will probably be past it. Looking forward to making friends on here again.
