Suggestions!!!

This is YOUR competition and I would like to hear your ideas. If you think of something that would make JulNoWriMo better, list your idea below.

There are numerous things that I will be working on over the next week, including:

  • Restructuring some of the forum pages & layouts (completed)
  • Re-implementing the word counter (completed)
  • Re-implementing the custom status feature
  • Creating a second "theme" (completed)
  • Updating the ranking system (completed)
  • Editing the forum names & descriptions (completed)

I'll update this list as necessary.

Hiya! Was poking in my profile and couldn't find the place to edit my custom status. Did I just miss it, or did it move from last year?

I think I have to re-implement that into the upgraded software. That may or may not happen, depending upon if I have time to figure it out... but I'll add it to my list!

Is fine! :) I just looked at mine and blinked and thought, "Well THAT's old!" Heh. Not a big deal if it stays, though.

If you want to change your custom status now, I think there is a way that I can do it manually, if you'd like.

I'm kind of new and I'm planning on writing a story for either NaNoWriMo and JuNoWriMo. It's been taking me a long time to navigate myself. Or maybe that's because I need glasses.

I saw someone had a neat little ticker in their signature. How about a list of where we can find easy to use ones? I tried to go where they got it but didn't see anything easy to use, that or my eyes are giving out on me LOL

You might be able to try TickerFactory.com. They don't have a category for word count tickers, but I'm pretty sure you can customize them to say whatever you want.

Well, on JanNoWriMo, we had something called "personal threads" where you could post stuff about your story and people could comment. I really liked those. Just a suggestion!

I agree with demonofthekeys's suggestion. I was going to suggest an excerpt thread, but I like his/her idea better.

There's a wordcount booster trick I heard from somewhere in NaNoWriMo (I think it was in No Plot? No Problem!) that said to go on to the members list, set it to list the members in order of wordcount. Then find your username, and look at the person above your username's wordcount, and vow to get above that person's wordcount in the next hour, few minutes, etc.
I think that the JulNoWriMo member's list should be able to do this. :D

Some say in ice.
From what I\'ve tasted of desire,
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think that for destruction ice,
Is also great
And would suffice.

If you go here: http://julnowrimo.thewrigro.com/index.php?page=stats&sub...

you'll see everyone who has posted a word count for this July contest, and you can sort by either username or wordcount at the top of the list, right before the first username. You can click on their username and go to their profile in the forums.

I do have another suggestion... I think there should be some way to immediately jump to new posts. I hate scrolling through old posts to find the new ones, and if there's more than one new post, jumping to the end doesn't work really well either.

New posts are either indicated by or

(The red pointy thing at the bottom is what signifies an updated post. It's probably not the best image, but it was what I could find.)

You can also go to the very top of the navigation and click on "Today's Posts" to view a list of all updated threads in the past 24 hours.

Oh, I know how to find threads that have been updated, but you still have to go through all the old posts in the thread to find the new ones. Certain forums (I don't know what this one is hosted by, but invisionfree, for instance, has this feature) where a little button will appear next to the title of the thread, and clicking that, instead of the title, will bring you to the newest unread post. Does that make sense?

Ohhhh, I understand now. I know exactly what you mean! Sometimes I'll be reading a topic and think to myself, "Haven't I already read this???"

There's an arrow button in the "Last Post" column that takes you to the last post, but like you said--that doesn't always work well either.

Not much I can do about it, sorry--my coding skills are slightly above crappy, and I'd rather be writing...
