Siana's July Serenade

The Silver Cliffs

Magician-hunting cyborg Darius Frost wasn't planning on letting his quarry go, even if she was pretty and seemed to know far too much about his past. He let Alanna Kendall walk away unharmed, though - a seemingly minor act of rebellion that exposed long-hidden details of Darius's life to despotic Chief Minister Gabe Creswell.

Creswell deals with criminals and enemies the same way - a long, slow death sentence in the labour camp known as Hell. Escape from Hell is impossible, but for Darius it's necessary. To protect the secrets of the Gods, Darius is willing to do anything.

Save Alanna.

Kill Mr C.

Destroy civilisation.

~~~
Other fun things like a bio, a fancy graphic and an explanation of my other project are all probably coming soon. I thought I should get off my butt and start a thread, though.
Anyway, The Silver Cliffs is science fantasy, blending together all my favourite bits of sci-fi and fantasy, then unleashing a lifetime of action/adventure reading on poor Darius. I'm expecting to get somewhere around 30k of it written in July.
So, at the end of day one, my wordcount is... 0.
There are several reasons for that. First of all, I failed to came to a decision about whether I was going to include my worldbuilding project in my overall wordcount for the month. If I count those words I've done 1,590.
(Some freak decided she was going to answer every single one of the questions in the Patricia Wrede list. With the amount I'm writing for each question plus the bits I'm doing extra research/brainstorming on, I'll end up somewhere close to 60k by the time I've finished that project.)
Main reason for lack of progress, though, is that I had a close look at what I've written so far of The Silver Cliffs and I have no idea where it's going. I just can't see a way forward.
So, a question to the JulNo crowd, or at least to the ones who might read this thread: how do you make stuff happen? I feel like I've forgotten how to work on anything except beginnings - I can pile up shiny stuff, but when the time comes to make things happen, I just go blank.
This is an ongoing problem for me. I'll probably continue to 'doom and gloom' about it over the next however long I keep this thread going.
Your premise sounds great. Just launch into something. Anything. Blow something up. If you have scenes in your head, then get them written. Don't bother with the order.
You quote Chuck Wendig in your sig. You know.
Thanks, Misa. Got it in one - I could see the path ahead and it was boring.
*hugs printed copy of the "F- the straight line" post*
End of day 2 and I actually have words :).
74 of them are even part of the The Silver Cliffs. Maybe. It's a random snippet that could occur anywhere, but it has the right characters in it.
Most of the rest of it was an essay on the role of fire in the death rites of the people in my 2013 Major Project.
Speaking of that...
~~~

The Frozen Tear

In spite of the fact that I'm working towards the third draft, I don't have a proper blurb for this one. I would have had one, but I just scrapped most of the storyline so I could fix a major plot hole at the beginning.

Main character is Serenity Lee, a mercenary and occasional pirate with a deadly secret that would see her face purification by fire if it was ever discovered. The story opens with Serenity's worst nightmare coming true - midway through a meeting to plan a train robbery, a reward notice identifying her as demon-spawn is brought into the bar. Serenity flees town, escaping the clutches of my inept Chosen One of Prophecy in the process and leaving the tatters of my plot trailing in the wind behind her.

As I said earlier, I'm trying to answer all the questions in Patricia C. Wrede's list. By the time I've done this I'll have a fair idea where my newly plotless story takes place.

The Frozen Tear (worldbuilding): 2,696 / 20,000
The Silver Cliffs: 74 / 30,000

The weather here is AWESOME tonight!

If you like howling gales, sleet and the possibility of snow down to 200m, anyway.

I'm hoping for snow, but wishing the wind and sleet would disappear.

Twenty days after my last post, the number of projects I've worked on this month has reached six. I started with The Silver Cliffs, flirted with Dispersion, Dark Star and Darkness, tried going back to the 'serious' project (The Frozen Tear)...

... and then I threw the whole lot out the window and decided I'm just going to write something so I have a place to go when I really need to be writing. No more Serious Siana for a while - I'm just enjoying writing a new story and seeing what happens.

I'm not going to reach 50k this month, but I think I'm okay with that.
