[Introductions] HI!!!

My name is Robert, and I'm a 23-year-old from upstate New York (Rochester, to be exact). I graduated college last year, and am now working full-time.

I enjoy running, reading, traveling, biking, and being on the computer way too much, among other hobbies.

This is my 9th year overseeing JulNoWriMo. I was fifteen when I helped to start this thing. Wow.

Heyy. :)
My name's Tina. I'm British and I'll be 21 by the time July comes along.

2013 is my sixth year participating in JulNo and my fourth year helping out.
  • In 2008 my computer commit suicide on July 4th and I lost everything. This completely killed my motivation and as a result that year I only managed a measly 4k.
  • In 2009 my aim was to make up for the previous years loss and I wrote a total of 104k on a politcal romance novel titled Cinderella Boy.
  • In 2010 my laptop died at 7pm on July 1st. Ironically, it decided to quit as I tried to change to a song called "DON'T U EVER STOP" on iTunes. I didn't get a replacement until mid-July and managed to win JulNo last year with three minutes to spare by writing 15,000 words on a realistic fiction novel, Decadence, on the final day between pet-sitting for multiple people.
  • In 2011 my aim was to write 50k to finish up my NaNo '10 novel: Black Lamb. I succeeded with this goal at 11:11pm on July 31st but most of the writing was crammed into the last week of the month.
In 2012 I wrote 50k on a project called Kalayaan while devoting any time I wasn't writing to Final Fantasy XIII.

Outside of writing I spend most of my time: socialising, listening to music and following foreign television shows. I'm also an avid reader (is there a writer who isn't?) and my favourite genres are horror and psychological thriller. When not wasting time my life seems to be dedicated to media coursework.

Looking forward to speaking with everyone again and meeting new members. Let's make this July better than the last! ;)

Hello~ I'm Melange or Mel, a 20-year-old student of Japanese language & culture in Vienna, Austria. This year will be my third JulNo. :]

In 2011 I wrote a psychological thriller titled Salt Cliff and in 2012 a surreal romance novella titled Last Light and hit 50k with each of those respectively. I mostly write realistic fiction or magical realism, but also like to experiment with other genres from time to time. Small wonder my favorite writer of all time is Haruki Murakami.

When not writing or reading, I'm usually listening to Asian music, watching anime, memorizing kanji or working on scaring away my latest rommate at the dorm. Jk.

Nice to meet you (again)! Looking forward to July, the words and the people!

Always keep the faith.

Hello! I'm Kelley, 14 year old unschooled student living in South Georgia with a passion for horror and dark fantasy. I enjoy blogging about writing, controverisal issues, and so on. This'll be my second JulNo. :D

JulNo 2012-I wrote some weird sci-fi novel. Probably the crappiest thing ever, but I managed to write 59,816 words. I am proud of that word count as I haven't reached such a thing since August Camp '12 (60,170 words).

I highly enjoyed my first JulNo and can't wait until the next one! :)

Wow, I didn't notice we had this thread going already.

I'm Ender Delphiki, as I'm called everywhere I managed to snatch the name before it was already taken. I was Ender Delphiki since before the character of the same name in Orson Scott Card's book was actually talking, which is my way of saying "before it was cool", although, being an Orson Scott Card book, it was always cool... </tangent> I'm a 19 year old student seeking a degree in Computer Science.

My preference of stories is something that really makes you stop and think in two senses. The first stop is to register wtf's going on, because most of my work has some degree of science or computers implemented within the story. The second stop is usually for you to look inside yourself and realize just how much this seemingly unrealistic story really applies to your life. You'll be asking yourself if you really believe what you thought you did, and start to see why people that disagree with you have their opinions. The main theme in every story of mine is misunderstood. As my character ZB would tell you, "crazy" is just another word for "misunderstood". Misunderstanding is the cause of 100% of the conflict in today's world, and in each of my stories, I dissect a certain type of misunderstanding. I haven't decided what I'm doing for this JulNoWriMo, but:

  • 2011: Penny (formerly As Three Deserve)- Penny was kidnapped when she was 9, and 5 years later, she's finally returned home to a world tremendously different than her own. She may not have had any schooling, and she may have had a far harsher life as of yet than anyone could possibly imagine, but what she's just about to find out what an enormous impact she's had on the world she's seen so little of. This is not a tragic story of her life in captivity, but of the reconstruction afterwards.

  • 2012: The Flying Citadel- This story has the same title and setting as one of my current projects, but it's a different story altogether starring different characters and a different plot. In the JulNo 2012 version, children were once taken from their homes and brought to the Flying Citadel. All of them. In the world below, a war raging between the humans and the witches must stop before races are wiped out of the world completely. The plan was, the only way to stop the fight was to run them both into the ground and replace them with a new generation of just children. This plan goes well for the most part- until one child's illness calls for them to leave the Flying Citadel in search of a cure. Now trapped in the middle of two destructive powers, the children must choose sides on a war without reason if they hope to survive to see the world live on.

  • 2013: The Blame Game- Obviously, still in the planning phase, but this much is known: when it comes to the Blame Game, no one has as much experience as Meena Sinuo. Her strategy isn't to frame anyone else- on the contrary, she has learned that the best way to protect those she cares about is to take the blame for their crimes. But, how long can she tread over others' responsibility before they pull her under? Life has only one rule: when your time has come, you must be able to look back on your past and be able to say "Good Game."

One of my favorite things to do around here is to get a word count of exactly 49,999... Consistency ftw.

2011 JulNo: i wrote a GLBTQ novel. And i won.

2012 JulNo: i wrote a young adult Horror/Thriller novel. And i won that too.

This year in 2013 for JulNo i plan to write either another GLBTQ novel, another SciFi novel, maybe even a Historical Romance novel this year too. I will pick either one of them to write this year again.

I hope to make friends here and have fun on here too. :)

(Let's get this started up again, eh? I need to procrastinate studying for just a little longer.)

Hi everyone, my name's Sadie. I used to have an account here, sadie-killjoy, but I forgot my password and made a new one. I'm fifteen, a soon-to-be sophomore in high school (my school year ends on Thursday), and this is my third year doing JulNo.

I keep coming back even though I've never won:

2011: Stage Lights - Fifteen-year-old Brittany expects to have a particularly boring summer this year: with no part-time job to occupy her time and no family vacations planned, two and a half months of unstructured free time stretch into infinity. Through a complicated misunderstanding, she is roped into her friend Katy's theater production group with one goal: produce, write, and perform a play in one month. (7,642 words)

2012: New Ways to Fall Apart - Billie Christiansen died the night of June 12th. She was hit by a car on the night of her high school graduation. This is not a story about Billie Christiansen, though. This is a story about Kendra "Kenny" Cole, and Claire and Nate Jamison: the people that she left behind. (~ 40,000 words)

2013: TBD

Outside of writing, I like reading, theatre, music, movies/TV, and occasionally sports, especially skiing. I can often be found hanging out in the chat room, where I always go by just Sadie.

Hi,

I'm arosebyanyothername but you can all call me Rose. This is my first year doing JulNoWriMo. I've tried NaNoWriMo a few times but never won. :crying:

I have the outline for three separate novels already so whichever one is more compelling on July 1st will be the one I work on. I write mainly Thriller and Horror, though I also dabble in Contemporary or Period Romance.

I'm 22 years old and a part-time student. I study Linguistics and African Literature. I am a mother, so I worry about being able to finish 50K in a month. But doggone it I'm gonna give it my best!

Edit: I am currently working on a conlang (constructed language) for my fantasy series that I will write after I figure their whole world out. That is my big project right now and I hope to get it (or at least the basics) figured out by July 1st.

Hey hey. I'm Taylor. I'm eighteen, graduated from high school a mere three days ago, and am attending university in the fall. Which is maddening and gutting to think about, but I guess I'm a grownup now?

I've been doing NaNoWriMo since 2007 (I was twelve when I wrote my first book, and it sucked). I didn't attempt my first JulNo until 2009. I've been doing it every year since. I don't keep careful track of my words or the works that I did in those times, but I tried to catalogue them below.

2009 - a book called As You Wish that embarrasses me in retrospect and a smattering of short stories and one shots, all of which amounted to a little over 151,000 words

2010 - Finished up the first draft of my NaNo 2009 book, All the Gods. Wrote half a draft for a book called Detox, which I would rewrite that year for NaNo. All told was around 75,000 words.

2011 - Half a rewrite of All the Gods. It was barely 50,000 words. I hated it and continue to. I never finished it.

2012 - I began the first draft of Rabbit Will Run. I only wrote a few thousand words before life became too much. My computer crashed, lost the five or ten thousand words I'd written for RWR, so I resigned myself to losing that year.

2013 - This year, I'm looking at writing down the biography of an autistic wolfboy named Atlas. It's part of an ongoing character study/my attempt to write a realistic werewolf story.

Aside from writing, I like history, language (studied Latin for four years and am teaching myself Russian), hiking, philosophy, music, and collecting old books.

I hadn't realized this post existed yet! I feel like I'm super late to the party, but that's alright. I'm erin: 27, living in Central Florida, and as always, will have just moved when JulNo kicks off this year. I've been doing JulNo since 2006... And I honestly can't remember when I started helping out. Maybe a year or so later? Eh, it's water under the bridge at this point. JulNo is one of my top two favorite WriMos [I helped create AugNo and still run it, so I'm a little biased there] and it probably will be for quite some time.

Every July for the last several years, I've been one of those people that uses JulNo to write all about zombies! There have been tofu zombies and boogeyman-controlled zombies... And like 4 other kinds. This year? Cyclops Zombies! More about that in the days to come, however.

My most favorite game in relation to JulNo, however, is trying to get to the top of the Word Count Leaderboard... And Stay there all month. That was a lot easier before I got a full time job, however, so we'll see how much I can accomplish this year.

On the plus side, I don't have a job yet so I should have free time. :P

Hey everyone. I'm Briana. This will be my fourth year doing Julno.

2010/2011: Worked on a novel originally called BAM, currently titled Way Out There. It sits at 72,830 from working at it on and off for these past four years. I have high hopes that I can finish it before this Julno, or I'm really going to be disappointed with myself.

2012: Worked on a novel called Indefinite. Didn't finish, don't know when I'll get to that one again.

As for this Julno, I've had an idea floating in my head since January that I've been planning in my spare moments. Currently titled In The City That We Love.

As for anything outside of writing, I'm watching reccommended tv shows, creating the perfect playlists, trying to educate myself in biology, and also just being your standard bum.

Hi, I'm Tatra!! I've finished college, but have yet to find a job. :P

I'm another person who uses JulNo to write zombies because it is an awesome thing to do.

09 - First time doing Julno, Addison was about zombies running around. I found out later that I didn't really have a plot for that, but yeah, I still won.

10 - Failed. I tried to write about Teddybear Zombies but didn't get that far.

11 - Apple Zombies was all about zombies made from people who had apple DNA fused with them escaping the government facility and going on a road trip of sorts. I won that one.

12 - Prehistoric Horror was a crack fic where I used my friends as characters and had zombie raptors attack a military/science base. Awesome fun and I won.

Now we're at 13 and I've named my novel Homicide Victims Rarely Talk to Police. In a Murder Mystery themed party, someone actually ends up dead. An actual detective is assisted by the dead scientist turned zombie in solving the case.

Hello! I'm Faye, I think this will be my 4th JulNo, but I'm losing track. I'm 19 (when did I become an adult? Aaaahhh!) and live in England. I'm studying Biology at university. Outside of writing I enjoy watching TV and aimlessly browsing the internet. I need better hobbies.

I first did NaNoWriMo in 2006 when I was about 12, and started JulNoWriMo in 2010.

2010: I wrote the first draft of The World is Mine, the 3rd book in a 5-part series. I think I finished it at about 60k, and then I rewrote it for NaNo the same year and reached 75k.
2011: Book 4 of the same series: Half the World Away. I procrastinated for about 2 weeks to play The Sims 3, but I finished the book at 60k with just a few minutes to spare on the final day
2012: I couldn't stick to just one novel, and the end result were 3 unfinished novels. I tried rewriting books 1, 3 and 4 of my series, but couldn't stick to any of them. All together, they came to 50k but I don't count it as a very successful WriMo.

Maybe it would be good for me to write something outside of the series I've been writing on and off since I was about 12. But I think I'm going to go back to it again this year. I'll either try re-writing book 1 (which I tried and failed at last year) or do the first draft of Book 5. If you're interested in what the series is actually about : it's set in 2 worlds, the human world (like the world we live in, where no one has any magic powers or anything) and a "magic" world, where people have superpowers and stuff, but it's also run by a corrupt government with an evil King. The series follows one family over the course of about 25 years, as their lives intertwine with the magic world.

Maybe one day I'll write something unrelated to this series. But it is not this day.

EDIT: turns out, it actually is this day. I've decided I need a break and I'm going to write different story that's been floating around in my head for a lot less time. We'll see how it goes. I might change my mind again yet.

Hi, I'm Anagnorisis09 (I realize that's a mouthful, but it's too late to change names, haha) and this is my fourth JulNo. However, I won't really be doing JulNo because I'm going to be working on some extensive revisions of my novel Entanglements, which I wrote last year. It's a political novel set in a fantasy world, so I've got a lot of worldbuilding to recall. Revising and rewriting ought to be fun . . . sort of . . . This will be my first time revising a novel rather than drafting one, so hopefully the process goes productively enough!

I will also be teaching myself guitar, HTML coding, and Mandarin, as well as reading a lot in order to catch up on a huge backlog of books. I also have to catch up on episodes of Game of Thrones and do lots of cleaning/organizing.

I'm Kate, a twenty-something pseudo-adult. I intermittently JulNo (think I skipped it the past two years), but I've NaNo-ed since 2005.

I'm probably a rebel JulNo-er this year, with the intent of finishing whatever I manage to start this month of a novel overhaul so I can get it done before I start law school in the fall (yup. I'm a future lawyer).

Hai.

Hey! I'm Juliette, and I'm almost 19 years old. I love to write and thus love JulNo. I have participated JulNo for the past 3-4 years, however have not been successful in winning until last year when I wrote 70k on a novel that I now dislike...This year I hope to write either a fantasy, magical realism, or realism, but that is yet to be decided. I'm not exactly sure but I really hope to make my JulNo this summer special and hopefully I can start off a book series, since I have always thought of making one but never managed to...I also hope to keep on top of it, as I usually start a novel/series but by then get quite bored with it - but we shall see. It will be fun to participate this year, and hopefully I can make some friends! :)

Hi there! My name is Heidi and I am 19 years old living in the Pacific Northwest of the US. I'm currently in college working towards my degree in counseling. (and maybe a minor in German because hey why not)

This will be my 6th JulNoWriMo I believe, which I have won 5 of I think. This year I'll actually be really busy because I'm going to be going on adventures with my friend all summer, but she also is going to do JulNo so that might help.

Other than writing a ton, I spend a lot of my time on Tumblr and various social media sites. I also play a lot of video games (currently Skyrim) and go see a lot of movies. I also read a ton and have recently started a YouTube for that. :P

Looking forward to July with all of you!

Hello, friends! I'm Sam and I'm Heidi's (thepillsburydoughgirl) friend who she will be going on adventures with all summer. I'll be 20 on Monday and I live in the Northeast corner (New England) of the US.

This is my first NoWriMo of any kind, and I'm quite excited. Apart from writing, I spend most of my time on tumblr, reading, listening to music, watching TV and movies, and sleeping.

I'm really looking forward for July!

Hey everyone! My name's Alison and I'm from Vancouver, Canada. I'll be twenty next month right near the end of Julnowrimo so we'll see how that goes lol. I just switched schools and programs so I'm launching into a four year degree in paralegal studies starting September and might head on to law later (if writing doesn't take off first).

I've done nanowrimo a couple of times and did julnowrimo last year. I've never won but I keep trying despite that. The book I was working on last July (Dark Intentions) I actually finished over the last year and I'm editing it now so I can take it to a writing conference I'm attending in October. Really proud of it.

This July I'll be working on a sequel though I'm not sure of the name yet.

When I'm not writing I spend my time working as a librarian spending way too much time on tumblr (writingfireandice and resurrectionsforredemption) and getting obsessed with way too many television shows and movies (my latest love affair is with the new startrek movies). Don't be afraid to say hi I don't bite! Good luck to everyone!

Hey folks. I'm Foodmoon both on here and on nano, and generally am called 'food' or 'fm'. I'm 33 and a compulsive writer and gardener. I write year round and garden when it's not too cold out.

I've won julno twice and nano once, if that matters, but haven't finished any stories. I seem to have a limit of about a month and a half to work solely on one story at a time, and then it gets laid aside for some time until I come back to it. In the meantime, more stories and story worlds insist on popping into existence. I may have a few too many [lol], as I've been writing since I was 16 and come up with several per year.
Currently, I'm working on plotting on purpose rather than by default, and actually finding conclusions to my never-ending stories. Generally I write fantasy, though I've recently discovered I can write [complete] short smut stories, much to my surprise. Set in fantasy worlds, of course.
Today's story happens to be about a world where genetic slavery became fact via genetic engineering and cloning. Strangely, not fantasy genre this time. I intend this to be the first of several short stories set in the world, following various characters who end up on the darker side of it.
I hope to get back to my 2012 nano soon, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for my stubborn muse to get interested again.

I consider myself rather boring, and when I'm not writing or gardening I can generally be found reading, working, sleeping, feeding or petting the cats, or just staring off into space wondering what I forgot to do. I'm friendly, if absentminded. Occasionally I do read for people, but I spend more time unsticking people on plot ideas.

Enjoy julno, folks!;)

I'm Becky, I'm 22, this is my seventh JulNo although I've not won since 2008 because I have very little discipline. However, last year I was homeless and unemployed (not as dramatic as it sounds, I promise) and this year I am neither, with a part-time job and part-time degree (and a cat, who is one of my sole topics of conversation) so maybe I can do better. I live in Lancaster, UK, I'm doing a Masters in History, and I have no idea what I'm going to write.

Nice to meet you all. :)

JulNo \'07: 59,557 words.
NaNo \'07: 52,452 words.
JulNo \'08: 53,556 words.
NaNo \'08: epic fail.
JulNo \'09: 19,949 words.
Ever since then? Eep, university.

Hi, I'm Misa. I'm *cough* old and this is my... third JulNo? I've lost count. I can't remember what I worked on previous years either.

This year I'm writing an erotic F/F science fiction romance, because one genre is boring. I was looking at something light and fun, but then I wrote out the blurb and discovered it's not. Ah well.

When I'm not writing, I like to read, knit, and play violin and Facebook games. That's when I'm not nattering on Twitter, which is so much my second home that I ought to pay rent.

Hello again, all!

My name's Keri, but I also go by Sly (as evidenced by my username). I've participated in JulNo for three years (it seems I skipped 2011) and I'm back to do it again! I'm one of the writers who uses JulNo as an excuse to get out all my zombie writing in the best possible way.

This year, I'm writing a fantasy/horror novel about a necromancer bringing all the exiles and executed prisoners back to life. Someone must stop it! Maybe!

Other than writing, I am working as a laboratory manager at a university or in school to finish up my MPA. On the off chance I am NOT working, I am dead I am reading or playing video games. Or D&D/Pathfinder/some tabletop rpg.

I also love to chat, so feel free to PM or find me on AIM or whathaveyou. Plotting/Story help may be one of my favorite things.

09: Trip- 50,055
10: Empty Brocade - 63,660
12: The Reanimation Code - FAIL
13: Only Illusion - 77,050
14: Finishing Novels - TBD

Hello, I'm Anna. I haven't really done JulNoWriMo in a while but I'm gonna try again this year. :)

I'm currently trying to decide which story to write this year between 2 - 3 pieces I've been thinking about.

I love to write, but the computers in my room don't have Microsoft Word anymore. So I'm gonna try dragging my sister away from one of the other computers for a few minutes each day so I can write.

I love to read too. I just finished "The Truth About Forever" by Sarah Dessen and I'm about to start her book "Just Listen". My goal for this year is 13 books (you probably don't think that's much but it's a lot for me). So far I've read 6 so I'm around halfway there.
