Cassandra [Greek Mythology]

If you know her story, you couldn't possibly fill me in?

I think there's more to her than I can find.

If you know any good books where I might find her story in greater detail, I would be grateful.

I want a 500 to 1000 word prologue preceding my story to tell her story, see, and I can't stretch what I know that far.

I know a couple versions of the Cassandra story. One is that Apollo fell in love with her and gave her the gift of prophecy. When she refused to return his love, he cursed her so that no one would believe her. She foresaw the outcome of the Trojan war -horse and all-, but her family -the royal family- wrote her off as insane and had her incarcerated.

Another version said that she had promised to be Apollo's consort, but then went back on her word. Apollo, in turn, cursed her.

Then another, completely different one says that she spent the night in Apollo's temple where her ears were licked clean by snakes, enabling her to hear the future.

I hope this was atleast sort of helpful.

Sobriquet,

I did Women in Ancient Literature last year; let me see what I have in my notes about her and I will post them up for you over the weekend.

PS: I wanted to do Helen of Troy but I couldn't find an outline of her myth cycle to go off...that and I had no idea what direction to go in with her.

Hmmm. I've never even studied it; its just an interest...

It was just something interesting to tie the whole story together.

But thank you. :)

Thank you.

I really need to bulk up the prologue. Its about 250 words of one line paragraphs.

Darn, just found the notes: I have Helen of Troy, Clytemnestra, Atalanta, the Amazons and Sappho in the week I thought they'd be in. I thought we'd done Cassie because we'd done Helen...but Cassie is in a way linked to Helen...sorry about that. :(

Ah, that's okay...

If you ever think of anything, I can just add that in. Perhaps I'll get a Who's Who on Greek Mythology or something - then I'll be sorted. Not that there'll necessarily be much...

No, I've got the basics of a prologue. Another time when I have much more time I'll spend an afternoon in the library digging up what I can to add bits and check the historical accuracy of my story.

But thank you for looking. :)

I went to a library and found a load of books on Helen of Troy. Maybe there'll be something in there about Cassandra.
