Writing and Life
I'm a freelance writer, student, and caretaker. It's my summer break from school, but I'm still pulling 50 hour work weeks and a full-time caretaking
schedule.
What are you doing while also writing? I'll be writing in my home office, in libraries, and in hospital waiting rooms. Where are you writing? What's
your inspiration?
This thread is to help us connect.

Hopefully you meant 50 hour weeks rather than days. Otherwise I fear for you.
But I'm doing a full-time job (read: 40 hours a week) along with keeping active in multiple role-playing campaigns with friends and trying to cook for
myself and exercise every day. Which means I'll be writing at my desk during my lunch break, and between dinner and sleep, when I get it. Hopefully
I remember to sleep though, and don't try to take up that time with writing.

I'm doing nothing. Really. I could sleep until 4pm all month and no one would care.
No college May-Aug.
I volunteer with 5-7 year old girl guides and it doesn't run during their school holidays - they've seven weeks off starting today.
Been on a job hunt since last year. I dedicate hours to it every week and the nearest I get is, "We'll call you in for training" - they
don't call. x.x
One of my JulNo projects is non-fiction and relates to my college course so I'll at least feel somewhat productive during the month. x)

I'm also working full time, but other than my job, my unhealthy addiction to videogames, and my responsibilities around the house [which are minimal],
I've just got this to eat away at my time.

Though this summer will be quieter, normally I'm a full time student + I'm having my two part time jobs + my ponies. But I just write a lot in
between.
I travel a lot by train and I love writing on it. Or by night, while watching some TV shows, movies or soccer. I'm not much for doing one thing at the
time.
If find inspiration everywhere. From conversations with people, wake up with brand new ideas, while riding a bike and even came up with an entire plot
after reading one single Tweet.... ^_^

Like RJA, I also travel by train and write on it. It really is relaxing.
My current life:
- Full-time Job
- Boyfriend who I apparently need to see sometimes? Whatever.
- Family medical things that will be over in August. Way to kill July.
Where I write:
- Train
- Work
- Most of the time anywhere I can. I tend to prefer to do it by hand lately so it makes it a lot easier
What inspires me:
- Reading books
- Listening to music
- Prompts. Prompts have always helped fuel my creativity. And, lately, I am in need of fuel.

Yeah it's great. Getting ready for a day at uni, or after a long day. Just get lost in my own fantasy.
But don't you just hate it when it's busy in the train and someone sits next to you? Especially when they try to look on your laptop all the time.
And yeah - boyfriend. That's why I don't have any time for those hahaha!

I hate trains with a passion! But I have a feeling yours don't roll through town blaring their horns at 2:30 in the morning. FFFFF
I have a job (which I'm at right now! ) and that takes up 40 hours of my week
and the rest of my motivation. The only time I ever want to write is when I'm at work. But I'm paranoid about IT watching me (though with all the time
I spend on the internet, I'm assuming they aren't) so I don't. :[
I don't really have any inspiration at the moment.

I've got nothing going on besides a new kitten! That, and cleaning out my
room so that I can have more space for me and the kitten. But, yeah, other than that, I got plenty of time to bash out some words.
I've recently moved my laptop to my desk, which is facing a bookshelf. I think I'll prolly end up typing most of my Julno, but handwriting takes
place wherever I want. When the weather is nice, I've found that I like sitting out on my screened in porch with my ipod. Reminds me of all them
hours sitting on the steps to the quad at school,
Inspiration, is random ideas that just pop into my head. I let the character's voices come through a lot and that kitten is so tiny and <3 (ADD,
easily distracted). Erm, inspiration for this actually came when my brother just turned to me and made this raspy, quiet roar. And then I was just
like 'Raptor zombies!' Then it grew from there.

I'm working part-time (hopefully picking up a few more hours next month) as an English tutor. Beside that, I'm going to try to make it to the gym at
least four times a week and motivate my husband to keep plugging away at his last college class.
I'll probably be writing at home the most. Maybe I'll grab a notebook and pen and work at Starbucks a few times since I don't currently have a laptop.
I'm inspired by my daily plot prompts, music, and working with writer friends.

I'm working on looking for a job, other than a temporary file clerk. Also, I tend to draw when not writing. A lot.
For my writing, itself, I've been working on creating a series. Another thing I do when not writing is plan that out.

I usually write by hand because my laptop holds about .5 seconds of battery. I really need to buy a new one...
But yeah, they try to read all the time. I've been known to write in the margins, "And then this really nosy brat decided to look at my stuff..."
Seems to work.

While writing i'll be training for Cross Country, this'll be my first season of it. I might be going to San Rafael to get a guide dog. As a whole the
big thing i'll be doing other than writing is exercise and lots of it. Of course there might be other things i might be doing that i can't think of
other than vacation and finding a sighted guide to run with. Luckily for me i can use my phone to write even as much of a pain as it can be to type
on. i really need to get one of those wifi keyboards.

Ohh, cross country training! Good luck!
While I don't think I'll be writing during JulNoWriMo again (maybe this November, I'll force myself to finally write...), I will be busy doing
behind-the-scenes work for JulNoWriMo to make sure everything goes smoothly.
What else will I be spending my time with? Well, working full-time (& overtime, possibly), traveling to Seattle, house-sitting 2 cats and a dog
until mid-July, moving into a new apartment near the end of July, running almost every day, and trying to stay sane...
I'm not too overly busy, but I don't like to spend my entire evenings on a computer if I can help it, since I spent 8+ hours staring at a
computer at work.

Well, I'm technically unemployed, since I work for myself (and make no money at it ), but at least that gives me enough time to consider my participation in JulNoWriMo possible.

That is one benefit of my job: no computer time at all. I'm always super sad when all of my friends come on and are like "Oh, yeah! I did "x" at
work!!" and bam, bonus words. Because most of the time, I have no shot at writing at work [except on my lunch, and then there's people all over asking
me what I'm doing and blaahhhh, no.].
BUT definitely have the benefit of being 100% fine with laying around on my computer all night / my day off because there is literally 0% computer
time in my work day.

I work full time as a therapist, and I'll have a grad student the entire month (which will eat up time... and brain energy.) Other than the job, I've
got my workout (about a hour a day), boyfriend, all the usual housework stuff (hoping the grass stays dormant so I don't have to cut it, at least not
until July's over). I usually spend about a hour a day surfing the internet, so I'm planning on using that surfing time for writing, instead. The big
hiccup this month is going to be that I'm having an eye operation that will take em out of commission for about 3 days, and my vision won't be back to
normal for 3-4 weeks I'm hoping that I'll be done with writing by July 19th
(day of surgery) or at least around 40K so that I can enjoy being miserable without feeling like I should be doing anything other than feeling sorry
for myself... (I'm actually looking forward to being out of commission for those three days- I love being lazy, it's sort of a guilty pleasure to just
lay around in bed all day listening to an audio book- yup, even too lazy to turn the pages of a novel.)

I do not go to school anymore i cannot afford it. Though i would want to have a job as a full-time writer to be able to publish my works. So far in my
spare time when i am not writing is reading while watching movies because i love multitasking. What inspires me is walking around the lake or a trial,
reading books, or watching movies even TV or spending time with family.
"Why am i the only one out of this group who thinks she is nuts." - Unknown character in new novel.
"Alpha there is problems heading up north we need to check out and find out what it is." - Liam from Alpha Alliance
"Master do you need anything else i can get you or do you want me to leave you right now." Peter from Blood Bond

It's summer break so I don't really get out of the house. I do have a job but I haven't been called in because there's nothing for me to do (I'm a
data entry specialist) so, basically I'm just sitting in my room day after day, watching movies, anime and TV shows from my laptop, reading books,
drawing or writing, when I feel like it. I can sleep for as long as I want, so far my parents haven't woken me up even when I have a doctor's
appointment or whatever - I don't know if they forget or just don't give a damn because I'm a grown-up.
I write wherever I can, meaning wherever I have my laptop with me. I used to write a lot a few years back but right now my only triggers for writing
are WriMos; as I have forgotten my habit of creating new dimensions, I have forgotten my love for notebooks - I used to write my stories in notebooks,
by hand. My main (haha, only) workplace is my room. I like peace and quiet along with some classical music, so public places are a no-no (for
plotting they work fine, though).
Inspiration... It strikes like lightning - one time I was on a bus and looking out of the window, when snap! an idea came. I wrote it down on old bus
tickets. I like lakes and rivers as well as parks, they usually create the
mood. In my opinion, movies and books are the worst kind of inspiration boosters but sometimes they help too.
"Close your eyes and pretend it's all a bad dream." "Then write it down!"

I'm training to be a teacher, but on summer break now. I have work to do in preparation for my final year of course, but that doesn't start until
September. I know that I won't have any time for writing when I start teacher training, so taking advantage of it now. There is no way I'd be able to
do the November one.
THough I only got married August last year, and I have neglected my husband last month with all my deadlines, so I still have to give him some
attention. And I am a home study tutor. Oh, and I'm writing a screenplay with my best friend; we are in the editing stage of it.
Do not grieve for the story, for it did not truly die. It just faked its own death and changed its identity.

I'm on summer break from college, and working on a research internship out in basically the middle of nowhere (I study environmental science). The
work is sometimes a 40 hour work week, sometimes more than that...it just depends on the experiment. But a lot of my experiments have long wait times
between results, so I use that time to pull up a computer and write.
I'm also applying to grad schools and making SOME effort to study for the GRE...some pathetic effort, actually...>.<
When August rolls around, I'll be heading back to school for my senior year (Chemistry major, Marine Science minor) and hopefully a Ph.D. program
after that. *crosses fingers*
Also, playing video games and hanging out with the other interns (we all live in a big dorm). Persona 3 Portable is my current game.

I have online course work that I do from home or the library. I only have an in-house class every other week for two hours. The other two classes do
take up a lot of my free time if you can call it that. Hopefully my last quarter.
I am a stay at home mom of three. That keeps me busy as we are constantly going in and out of the house. I have resorted to notebooks once again
because it takes to long to move laptop and all the cords outside to plug it in for what may only be a 30 minute outside play time. (my laptop battery
is shot, desperately needs a new one)
Slowly starting to look for a new job, starting to get more exercise in. I tend to spend a good part of the early morning and evening sitting at the
kitchen table or the patio table writing. Central area for my kids to come play and distract me which they do a wonderful job doing. My daughter likes
to help me make up stories. My son likes to play with my mouse while I type. He also picks out my colors of font. He likes to change them up.
