Title problems, anyone?

Hi! :)
Post here to share your titles, or any title ideas, or, if you're like me, you don't know what you're going to call your story, and you need help. O.o

You can\'t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.

To try and find a title, I usually try to think of a word that describes my story. Then I plug it into thesaurus.com and see if it has any cool synonyms. It works well enough to get me a working title, anyway. My JulNo is called "Seeming" for now.

I usually have a tough time with titles. For this project though I got the title first: Cloudy With A Chance Of War. Kind of transparent, but I like it.

A lot of titles I think of would only be useful to me, and some I'm planning on using myself, but I'll throw them out here anyway. Also, good heavens but maybe I overdid the Woody Guthrie song titles. :embarrassed:

Cops and Rabbis
The Bialy Gonif

I hadn't even thought about having to find a title! Hmm that gives me something else to faff around with.

I'm never any good at titles. There are two ways I can do a story: start with the title, and let the plot follow; or, write it, and pick a phrase that really stands out and make that the title...

Personally, I've still not found anything...

Yeah, I'm thinking that a title might suggest itself from a chance line in the story. If not, I'll worry about that later!

For my JanNo, it took me until the very end of it to find a good title. I just looked for a theme in the story, and used good ol' thesaurus.com. The Surmise, I think it sounds cool.

For this JulNo, the title came before the plot, which is what usually happens. Sort of simple. Bassett, which is the new name of Baseball in the near future. (in my book of course) And that's what it's about.

And for my books that haven't been written/attempted to be written, they are Turned and Blank Silhouette.

JanNoWriMo07: The Surmise - 52/50k +11k since [63k total] (incomplete)
JulNoWriMo07: Bassett - 0/50k (incomplete)

I've had trouble with a title for this one. I was thinking of "Vanished Aggression", but I'm not entirely sure how much sense that makes.

Hey!

I have a few ideas, but they're more for the complete story, not this novel (unless I shoot for WAY more than 50k, the full story won't fit in my JulNo). This is my favorite:

"Fragments of God"

It came from an early idea/theme for the story, that all humans and angels (yes, angels) are just pieces of a larger...thing. Even the various gods in my story are just "fragments."
I liked the idea the moment I had it, because I needed a plausible reason that one of my MCs, a human, could beat the crap out of a god/demigod. Of course, that part is gone now, but still... I like the title.

I still need one for the JulNo itself, though. This is harder than I thought.

The working title for my novel is: "The Legend of Sophia"
It doesn't seem very original, and if you have suggestions, go ahead. For now, it'll work.

It would be nice if you could help me with a short story of mine, though. It's about a woman who takes a charge from the goddess Animus to destroy the world called Talaran, so that the altar in that world can't be used to subdue the gods and goddesses. At the moment, it's called Talaran. The main character is Anna, just in case that helps you with ideas. Thanks for the help.

...and he can do that, and she can do this, and he can react like that, and she can slap him, and he can yell at her, and then a dead body can come crashing through the ceiling... yippee! XD

What is this thing you call a title? I had forgotten all about needing a title until I read this post. I have everything saved under "My July 2007." I'll wait until I finish the novel, then I'll name it.

I'm usually great with titles. Whenever I start writing, they come to me. But I just swapped from doing the JulNo I started that didn't go the way I planned, back to finishing my JanNo, which still doesn't have a title.

I've been thinking: Julno might be a good name for a character, or a place, in my novel. So, shove that in, and Julno might actually make an interesting title.

Ha ha.

That's an idea.

I've got a working title, but I don't even want to share it... I might change it to 'Apostasy', since that fits in with a fair amount of what I've done, but just not all of it...

I have five characters with the same name (well, one changes her name to that...)

My novel is currently being called "First Contact". Its very unoriginal I think. Plus it makes me thing fo the Star Trek movie sooo its going to be changed.

I think "Aliens like Bizet" sounds differnt enough and all the aliens the MCs will meet will like to listen to Bizet. I might just go look at sci-fi show episode titles to get ideas.

Yeah - the first title did make me think 'Star Trek' before I'd finished the sentence.

I do like the second title - it sounds interesting.

I finally decided to adopt Julno as the name of both a city and a country in my novel, as well as for the novel itself. *hugs Julno* It just fits for some reason. It sounds exotic, I guess.

My current title is "Vis--vis" which means 'face to face' in French. I heard someone say it yesterday and thought 'Hey, that could be a good title', so yeah. Before then it was just 'Untitled'.

I don't have time for titles! I have to write! WRITE! RUN!

Hehe, I usually think of a title in the middle of a story, but my titles aren't usually very good, except for my first NaNo year, when it was "Chickens: A Round of Implausible".

...

There really wasn't anything else it could be called.

I usually have a title in mind when I start and that title tends to be permanent, but I don't have any title in mind for the story I'm writing now. Oh, well. I guess I'll find one eventually, however lame it will be when I do.

I've still not found one in the text... except maybe "Bluebells", but that's only really relevant to one fifth of the story.

I still haven't got a title for my JulNo, but then again, I'm not sure I even have a plot. (Plot, if you're listening, please come back to me!)

My titles are usually random words plucked from the story - my last two were 'FaNTaSy' and 'Torn'. Hoozah for uninventiveness =D

Stalebreath: That title is made of awesome XD
