Wow, well, this is a one sided conversation. But I'm going to write 50K ontop of what I already started for my Sailormoon Fanfiction. I have some other original ideas that I'm kicking around, but they require too much building on that I might not be able to finish that intime to start writing the story at the beginning of July.

*glomps dragon* w00t! Someone else I know from other boards!!! :D

I THINK this is where my fic goes. Short description is Sailormoon meets Fantastic Four, but put NASCAR drivers in the place of the characters. Who knows what other fandoms might get thrown in here. My goal is to get at least 10,000 words. 50,000 words would be gravy (especially with how busy it is at my job right now, with my job being where most of my writing is).

That story is going to be crazy. XD

I'm doing Pokemon fanfiction myself. (Darn you, Diamond!) This is the first time I've written fanfics since I was...I dunno... ten? I especially remember writing three paragraph Pokemon stories when I was seven. I'd print them out and draw a cover. So cute. XD

I actually have never won a writing challenge yet. But I\'ll never give up!

All you really need to know about the fic right now (as I forgot to mention it blended fantasy, as well) is that Kurt Busch is an elf. Literally. *pets him*

Because I am as indecisive as a very indecisive thing, I may be doing fanfiction! Heh. If I do, it will be Harry Potter, and given my interests right now... probably mpreg. Mwaha.

Mine is going to be such a terrible mashup. XD It's going to be a bunch of people (original people based on real internet friends, and a sort-of-me [I know, shoot me now for including a self-insert]) coming together and roadtripping Supernatural-style (Hunting). They'll encounter various fictional characters and creatures (I can already come up with ways to introduce them to Wraith from Stargate Atlantis, Danny Phantom and various ghosts from that TV show, and Pokemon [I'm keeping one!]). It's going to be cracktastic, though in a good or bad way is yet to be seen.

LMAO I love cracktastic stuff! I can't wait to read it obi1sgirl, it sounds like a fun piece of fiction! XD And throwing Pokemon in there is way cooler than coolness itself. I personally love the new Diamond game {I have it! XD Yay!} LOL

I don't have a DS so I haven't been able to play Diamond/Pearl yet. :( I have an emulator, but it always freezes as soon as I beat that first Starly.

Sucky!! I didn't even know you could get emulators! XD BTW: the Starly is the best pokemon in Diamond, I think. I use mine constantly and it's stronger than my starter pokemon, both at the same level! XD

Haha, so I'm sitting here debating which Pokemon I'm keeping for my self-insert character: Espeon, Umbreon, a flier, a surfer? I kind of like the idea of Haunter (how freaky would he be, hovering at 5'3 with the giant unattached hands and that huge grin?)...

...this is incredibly dorky, trying to pick a Pokemon that I would like to have in real life. >_<

I think what's more dorkier is that when I play the game and catch Pokemon, I choose ones that I would choose if it was real life! XD

Okay, for you fanfic people out there, I've got a few questions.

I don't usually read fanfic in general, but I've been tossing an idea around for a few years for one that I want to write. Do you have to sort of know what's out there before you write it, to know if someone's already gone in that direction? What do you do with it after you write it? Post it online somewhere? Do you have to get permission from the original author/publisher?

Um, okay, that's all I can think of right now. Thanks. :)

Even if someone's gone in that general direction, it's highly unlikely it'd be exactly the same. Plus, depending on the fandom, it could take ages to look up all the fanfic written for it, even if you filter by pairing and such. XD

For me, personally, I write fanfic when I get bitten by a plotbunny that wants me to put the characters in some certain situation, or if I want them to have some certain conversation, and just getting it written makes me feel better. Others post it at places like fanfiction.net or communities/message boards/e-mail groups specifically created for that purpose.

For the most part you don't need permission. Unless you're trying to get it published, in which case of course you do. Usually people just include "disclaimers" consisting of something along the lines of "I'm just playing in the creators' sandbox, no infringement is intended, plz don't sue."

The Fanfiction Wikipedia article has some good information, if you want to read more. :)

Awesome - there's people here!

I'm a veteran of fan-fiction, though I've never actually, uh, finished a long, multi-chaptered one. But this time around, I'm determined!

I'm doing a j-rock (japanese rock) fan-fiction, based on Dir en grey, but with lots of other bands included. And it's a crossover with Labyrinth. :3 It shall be marvelous.

As for the race car drivers and elves... that's awesome - it reminds me of a Mercedes Lackey book (super early for her), with elves and kitsune and such - was an awesome series.

Yeah...I got one of her books that involves Bards in New York. (I didn't realize that the mixing modern times with fantasy themes HAD its own sub-genre until I picked up that book Thursday! Makes me very happy. ^_^)

LOL I have a couple series' by Mercedes Lackey but I haven't read them yet, I kind of inherited them from a friend. I have Oath Bound, Beakers and Blood, Owl Flight and Sight and a single book By the Sword. It looks interesting! XD

Oh, she's always been one of my favorites, and urban fantasy is also a favorite - combine the two and it's good fun. I love the Oath series.

I love how this got so off-topic. XD
