Anyone writing by hand?

There's a thread for the fonts you use when you type, but is anybody here writing their first draft by hand?

I've got a couple of pages done on paper. I just find it easier to 'rewrite' the story when I start typing it up, and my wordcount skyrockets as well then.

I find it less stressful to take a book and a couple of pens with me wherever I go and write whenever I get a minute or two, even if it's just to dot down a line. I don't have to worry about my computer crashing or my laptop running out of power, or accidentally deleting my first draft.

The con is, of course, that I have to type like the devil is chasing me if I want to make my wordcount before the end of the month.

I may be typing by hand for 11 days, starting the 12th. This is because I will not have a computer. I may not be writing at all though, and my only options are to write on paper or not at all.

I know I read about other users writing by hand. Burnttoast does, but I'm not sure if she got herself a computer quite yet.

I may be a pawn, but I'm on the seventh row.

I tried to do it by hand last year but my hand cramps very quickly and would do so within a couple of pages. I definitely made the choice to go electronic this year and purchased a netbook. I wish I could manage by hand.

I mostly write on my computer. But when I get inspired when I'm at school or in the train or something, I always have some pen and paper with me. So I do parts on paper.

But the problem is that I think faster than I can write. Typing is a lot quicker

I have 443 words on paper, the other 9,000 or so is on the computer...but I know I will be away from a computer a bunch of times, so I'm bringing my pen and paper along so I don't get too far behind. My plan right now if to count up the words on each page so I know how much I have written by hand, and then I just add that number to my computer word count. I figure I'll type it all up after I reach my goal. :)

I'm writing part by hand. But I'm thinking of postponing that part because it's more rewritting than actual writing on a draft.

Like a few others, I do write out parts by hand. If I'm out and about, I bring pen and paper with me instead of my ancient laptop that won't hold a charge anymore. Then I type up what I wrote when I get home. What's nice is I get a chance to edit it when I type it up. But it does take longer this way since it's like I'm writing the piece twice. It'd be difficult to write it all by hand. Kudos to those who do!

I write by hand 98.9% of the time. I write about 500 words per front+back of a steno page, so that's how I keep count. Sometimes its a little less, many times a little more. So it all evens out.

I've written my newest additions by hand, and added them to the file on my computer as I progress. I have several pages written out that I need to add to my computer file, so I haven't updated my word count in a while. I have no idea how many words I'll have before I take time out of my day to do that.

I sometimes write by hand if i comes up with plot scenes or ideas. As to more characters and anymore writing scenes in my head. I put them down in my journals. Then i transfer what i written for the plot ideas with scenes for characters straight towards my laptop. To the chapters i have for them that i am stuck on to get through. After putting the plot ideas and scenes with characters in them.

In that case you can only be in here if you have competent adult supervision.

Er... volunteers? No, just kidding. Younger people are always welcome in here.

I'm always kind of tempted by the 'writing by hand' idea. I used to do it before I learnt how to touch-type. Now I write the occasional note to myself and that's about it.

This month, I've been doing both. I started out pretty strong in the beginning, but as my interest in the story waned, I started searching for ideas to stop writer's block before it began, and one of the things that worked the best, I think, was bringing a clipboard with a stack of loose leaf paper and a pen out with me while I smoke. (I know, I know.)

It worked like a charm. I've written pages and pages by hand now, and that's probably a big reason I got so close to my word count goal this JulNo. I guess, when it comes down to it, you just have to remember the basics and go with what feels right.

And to whoever said that it helps them to edit and add word count at the same time - I totally agree. It's really done wonders. Strange I'd never thought of that before!

It's official. I'm writing a crime/thriller/mystery novel with GLBT elements. So psyched.
