Extraction Point

For my JulNo 2011 project, I'm doing an action sci-fi story about a special operations team sent to a remote planet to deal with an infamous war criminal. Any other military-themed SF story authors out there in the audience? :D

In a way, I guess. I'm finishing up a story about an assistant surgeon in the army. It's more alternate history than sci-fi, though.

Today, I found out after 20 000 words that I got a uniform detail wrong. Repeatedly. Argh.

War Crimes progress thread, in which Hollis Downey is the worst soldier ever.

I'm either doing a sci-fi time travel thing with some intergalactic wars for good measure, or a reality show gone (extremely) wrong, but I don't know where the first story starts and I don't really have anything concrete for the second one...I've thought of a combination, but that will get crowded fast.
I have to figure it out soon though...only eleven minutes until July.

Just started writing the actual story for Extraction Point...not exactly off to a flying start, but hopefully I should pick up the pace in the next few days. :)

Well, as you can probably guess by my extended absence, I never was able to pick up the pace, and it's a safe bet I'm not going to crack the 50,000 word mark before the clock runs out. :crying:

Well, I don't normally do sci-fi at all, but I had one pop into existence on me and demand loudly to be written on a couple/three days ago. It was a planet of mercenaries.
Unfortunately, that was ALL it decided to tell me, and I was stuck. I write fantasy not scifi, for crying out loud. Then I had to go to work. And it was one of those days. So in the middle of being irritable at work an idea clicked and I suddenly had a character. A shift manager for an eatery on this planet of mercenaries. Every planet needs restaurants, right?
So I guess that while my planet [BloodGold] starts out, err..., conflict themed, my story isn't really.
However, that's as close as I'll ever get, in all likelihood. :D

Your story sounds interesting, like something I'd read. I hope you are able to pick it up again and finish it. "Keep the faith." ;)
