Usually I'll just listen to my iPod on shuffle, so that's quite a mix, but right now I'm liking The Fray and Linkin Park. I need to buy some movie soundtracks though because I love listening to them and they're so INTENSE. I want the X-Men: First Class soundtrack really bad. And Inception. Yeah....oh, and my friend composes music so I like that. :)

OMG THERE'S A NANO SONG?? *rushes off to listen*
EDIT: Oh my gosh. That was amazing. XD

It tends to vary with what I'm writing. Before it's been anything from Celtic Woman and Loreena Mckennitt to Nightwish and Florence + the Machine. For the novel I'm planning I've been listening almost entirely to the Evita soundtrack, with some Tori Amos and Vienna Teng thrown in.

And now I must go listen to that NaNo song!

I know right! There is another one too but I don't have that one saved (I'm not a huge fan of the other one). I'm sure if you just search NaNoWriMo song you'll find the other one. I bet there are more too.

But yeah I listen to that on repeat. My room is connected to my brothers via a Jack and Jill bathroom set up and he has heard me scream at my computer, "I'M GOING TO WRITE A F--KING BOOK!" Hahaha that song just inspires me so much to keep working. Last July I listened to it roughly 240 times.

Goals for JulNoWriMo 2011:

Babbett - fantasy novel
The Murderous Misadventures of Mel Mary - murder mystery

Usually soundtracks. Or Sigur Ros. Anything instrumental or with unintelligible lyrics!
I like a lot of non-English music as well, but listen to it long enough and you pick up the words anyway, without understanding what it is you're singing...

right now, I've been listening to parts of the Mass Effect soundtrack on repeat, until it gets annoying. this song is particularly relaxing and this one is motivating! .. I really love that game. :<

The music I listen to really despends on what I'm writing.

Beoga and Flook get me really excited to write but they're not really good for depressing scenes. ;) find Evanescence and All Time Low helpful to. Along with some of the Fray songs and pretty much anything from the AVPM soundtrack.

And there's a NaNo song! I must listen to it. :D

Kinda funny, but the music I listen to while writing is totally different than the music I enjoy listening to otherwise.

For writing:
Within Temptation
Evanescence
Epica
Nightwish
Theatre of Tragedy

etc. (goth metal, essentially)

Also, Clint Mansell. Anything that man wrote is golden for writing. Especially "Death is the Road to Awe" from The Fountain soundtrack. Nothing better for writing epic scenes :D

It usually depends on what scene/chapter I'm writing.

Right now, my top 3 songs are as follows:

1) Who Am I Living For? by Katy Perry
2) Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield
3) The River Flows in You by Yurima

The songs which inspire me to write are fairly varied. Mostly, it's show songs and what-not. [I have a John Barrowman CD of them, the Cats CD, and a couple of other musicals.] Also, TV show soundtracks, such as the soundtracks from Doctor Who. For individual songs at the moment, outside of this, I've been listening to:
- Katy Perry: Firework
- Baby It's Cold Outside: Glee [it's not close to Christmas, I don't watch Glee, but I'm in love with their version of this song. xD]
- Someday I'll be Saturday Night: Bon Jovi
- Galifreyan History 101: Chameleon Circuit
- A Thousand Hours: Alex Day
Those five are on repeat at the moment, regardless of whether I'm writing or not. ^^

My listening device of choice is either my iPod [which I once lost for half an hour and nearly cried trying to find it, itís that important] or my iPod dock, if Iím in my room during the day, and want my music blasting. ^^

I'm totally listening to the NaNo song right now. I think that this is the same girl who did the World of Warcraft Ruined My Life song...which I'm using to help break my addiction...

I'm so happy I'm not the only one out there who writes to Hans Zimmer and Howard Shore :] I wish I could channel all of their music epicness into the things that I write. I also like listening to Dave Matthews Band when I write. Their music is pretty chill, and they have long instrumental jam sessions, so that I'm not always distracted by the vocals.

I also heard somewhere that listening to classical music is supposed to help concentration. Does anyone know if that is true?

Soundtrack

For me it's a lot of musical theater stuff and movie soundtracks, my top five are:

1) Moulin Rouge (This might have to do with my huge crush on Ewan McGregor)
2) Slumdog Millionaire
3) Tron (Daft Punk. Good for late night sessions when you're running low on caffeine)
4) Rent
5) Cars

I usually listen to Doctor Who soundtrack, Supernatural soundtrack, wrock or Darren Criss. I try not to listen to him, though, since most of the time I find myself staring at the blank Word page until the music stops, contemplating and drooling like an idiot.
Most of the time I listen to wrock, Ministry of Magic especially, and I try not to listen to AVPM/S/Starship soundtrack, since I want to go back and re-watch the musicals until my eyes pop out. Doctor Who helps me a lot, so I can happily say that even if I'd listen to the TARDIS noise on repeat I'd be able to write.

I don't listen to anything when I'm writing because I'm usually writing wherever and whenever I can make myself do it, but when I'm plotting or just writing around thinking about my story, I really like to listen to Linkin Park or Breaking Benjamin... Anything that makes me think of good action sequences or really deep, raw emotions. I need to find some mellower but really moody stuff. I don't have very distinguished musical tastes like some do! :)

I usually just either take a playlist my sister makes or one of my more solemn playlist because I feel even when I'm writing a happy scene, the solemn music makes me from going so happy that it's over the top.

Though for writer's block, I listen to AVPM and AVPS or just Lauren Lopez and Darren Criss in general. :)

However when I'm writing for a wri mo I tend to listen to this video on loop: The NaNoWriMo Song by italktosnakes

Watch it if you haven't seen it :)

But that way when I'm wanting to stop and I haven't hit my quota for the night that I set for myself, I hear the song playing and think, "I'M GOING TO WRITE A FIRETRUCKING BOOK!!" And that kicks me back into motivation :D

Thanks for sharing the link to the song. It helped cheer me up. I added it to my favorites at YouTube for future use. XD

I will plan to buy the Tim Burton's Alice in wonderland soundtrack from Wal-Mart, and more soundtracks from Hastings. As well including move instrumental soundtracks. Though i do not know what is the best buy for heavy metal instrumental music though will somebody tell me please!
