Shutter island by Dennis Lehane definitely i love how he combines mystery with a psychological thriller it is by far one of my favorites

I also like Agatha Kristy's series i can't think of the name right this moment they made great movies too

The Invisible man by HGWells was a mystery in its own right i love that one a lot

I'm a HUUUUGE murder mystery fan! That is pretty much all I read.

I have several favorite authors for several reasons.

Mary Higgins Clark - she has soooo many characters I usually have trouble keeping track of who's who! But her mysteries are always complex and a good read.

Janet Evanovich - she has a much laid back style and easy going stories so those are fun for a relaxing read. Even with that though her mysteries are usually complex with several twists and turns.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - ah, the father of Sherlock Holmes. If you can push through some of the period style writing his stories are wonderful.

Other than those three main ones I basically pick up whatever sounds good. I'm not a big fan of Agatha Christie, Tana French, or Patricia Cornwell. Plus some others. But I will give everyone a shot. I'm a pretty picky reader though. If I don't like it a few pages in then I set it aside. It depends per novel.

Goals for JulNoWriMo 2011:

Babbett - fantasy novel
The Murderous Misadventures of Mel Mary - murder mystery

I love whodunits. My favorite author in the genre is probably Ngaio Marsh, and I also like Carola Dunn, Georgette Heyer (she's mostly known for her romances but she wrote some amusing mysteries too), and Dorothy L. Sayers. Agatha Christie novels can be fun to read but they always make me feel like she must have been a terrible person. Same goes for Josephine Tey (The Franchise Affair for instance, oh my god). I don't like stories like Sherlock Holmes ones where the detective has much more information than the reader, and then suddenly the plot stops and starts rambling on about Mormons instead...

I haven't read much YA mystery but The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin was excellent.
