Closet Threads!
I am a narcissist. It's always very helpful to have people pop in and read and help on a thread you don't have to worry about swamping.

I agree.
A place to cheer and rant and just make general notes about your progress is always useful.

I'm a bit confused. Explain more, please? Perhaps I'm just a bit too exhausted at the moment to comprehend.

I think they mean like a personal thread that each member can have to write about their own progress and update as they see fit?

Totally, dude
Yeah, like on the JaNoWriMo forums they had as a subforum a place where authors could devote entire threads to their novels, so if you were interested
in this one chick's plot you could hang out at her thread and give advice without taking over the general genre threads.

I think this would be a good idea, but for instance, last year there were 500 writers taking part. If all 500 made a personal thread, how would you
moderate them?

By thinking realistically. I doubt that many people would want to make a thread (not all members even post on the forum itself - they just observe and
update their word counts), and some people won't make more than a couple of posts before giving up with the idea all together. Others would only post
once a week, some would only post when they felt like ranting, and others would only post at the start and end of the challenge.
Besides, if there were any problems that needed to be addressed then I imagine users would be wise enough to notify the moderator(s) for the section
rather than cause a fuss in the thread itself.

They exist on JanNo, AFN, MayNo, WriYe and Milwordy too.
They're often pretty popular. It's a good way of keeping track of your friends progress.

Yeah, I think WriYe is likely the largest forum I've seen them on [at the start of the year, we had nearly 1k members]. Admittedly, at the start of
the year when everyone who wanted one was starting them, it was rough to get through them, but the members generally point things out that they see...
And often if something is fishy, it's obviously fishy from the surface, which is nice.
But, they're not as overwhelming after that initial push.

Would a subforum under "The Campfire" be the best place for this addition?

What about if they were in the subforums in genre? That way they wouldn't all be on one page freaking people out and you could take a look at people
tackling your own genre as well as looking at others.

I do like the idea of splitting them up some how, but there are large numbers of people tht write fantasy and sci-fi, so I don't know whether that
would work as well.
How about alphabetically, in terms of username? Like A-E, F-J, K-Q, R-T, and U-Z... okay, uneven, but I'm thinking in terms of most popular letters...

That sounds splitty-uppy. I mean, obviously, but wouldn't it be better to have people doing sort of the same thing do sort of the same thing together?
I think Kristina has a good point in that not everybody will have a thread, and even less will post regularly.

Everyone's are grouped together on other sites, usually on a board of their own titled, "Goal Progress Reports" or just, "Progress Reports" on its
own.
