It's Almost Here . . .

It's June 28th - only two more days before kickoff! How are you preparing? Are you shopping for any particular snack/beverage? Do you have some sort of writing "totem" that you're pulling out of the closet from last NaNo? No ideas for plot and smiling about it? No ideas for plot and sitting in a corner, huddled up, rocking, and sucking your thumb?

Are you reading Chris Baty's No Plot? No Problem!? Any other books/sites that inspire you? Examples of inspiring sites would be something like Forward Motion, or Limyaael's Rants.

Personally, I thought I was going to be golden as far as planning went, but now I'm sure that I won't be. I think I'm going to have to shorten it from 3 WIPs to 2 - 50k on two novels, and then 50k more of prewriting for two other novels. The fantasy wartime thing just didn't come together while I was at the beach, so I'll have to spend more time planning it. The fanfiction is still getting written, though, as is the original mythology stuff.

Snacks - trying to avoid them. Beverages - Vault. Lots of it. As for a writing totem, I have these gloves that I really like, but it's not exactly the right time of year. Maybe I'll go out and find something else, like a hat.

And for inspiration, I've already read No Plot? No Problem!. The people sitting next to me at Barnes & Noble all looked at me like I was crazy, too, the way I was cackling. That Chris Baty is a funny man. Limyaael's Rants definitely have me making a mental crap filter, if you will. :)

Y t?

I really need to get that book some time. Chris Baty is funny, indeed :)

Me, snackwise: Meh, I've got a grocery store a verry short walk away. If I'm blocked and looking for snacks, I can always walk over there for snacks.

I *do* need to get my ticket for PotC 2 midnight showing, and the PotC 2 soundtrack, which doesn't come out until the fourth, so I'll just have to start without it.

I've got a plot in mind, but I had a plot in mind for both NaNos and ended up with something entirely different. At the very least, there will be pirates. I'm working up a couple of short character sketches for starters and making a list of good pirate-y names.

And I've got my pirate hat all ready, although my bunny's wearing it right now...

I have tons of cherry coke at my disposal - the real stuff too. this is the only time of year i'll ditch my diet soda for the real deal, lol. i've got a few boxes of cheez-its ready to go... and a bag of kettle baked potato chips. i do believe there's still a few things of kettle corn in the pantry too... so i'm set for the first week at least. ;]

from what i can tell on the forums, i'm one of the more prepared for this month. i've been looking forward to it & prewriting since the beginning of may... so i think i'm set. :]

i did just uncover my disney music collection, however... so i think that's going to keep my muse happy for the first couple of days!

That's just it - so have I! :-/ And yet, I still feel like I'm nowhere near prepared enough. Almost 75k worth of prewriting on these novels and I feel like I have 75% of them left to plan. I'm glad you feel ready, though. That makes one of us.

lilac_wood - Love the bunny and the pirate hat. :) I need me one of those.

aw... i've got my whole novel outlined pretty much and the outline itself is just under 45,000 words, i think i can struggle my way through it in a month while adding 5,000 words... so, yeah. provided nothing comes up that keeps me from my computer this year... i'm pretty confident.

'course, it helps that i'm writing a set of characters i've been developing for years now. never actually written anything with any of them in it... but they've been bouncing around in my head enough that i feel like they're real.

My novel's mostly outlined by now... I'm still in the (very) early stages of my conlang, though, and I must draw a map! I'm going shopping today for the Fellowship of the Ring and King Kong soundtracks... I'm going to try and convince my mom to let me stock up on chocolate. And I'm going to pull my "hobbit clothes" out of the closet. :P

I'm actually a lot more prepared then I thought I'd be. Heck, last year for NaNo I didn't even sign up until the third or fourth of the month, and I went in totally blind. Getting a RL friend to come to the dark side helped a ton. She was all eager to start pre-writing, so we went to Starbucks last night and hung out there for about 3 1/2 hours. That was after we stopped at Meijer though, to pick up new journals for our notes. And pens, of course. I ended up with PaperMate felt tip pens in cute colors. XD

Snacks, I haven't really started yet. I've been cutting back on Pepsi in preparation for large amounts of consumption of the stuff next month. Coffee is always in good supply: we have 2 cans of Chock Full of Nuts (imported from NJ, because we don't have it around here ;)), and I bag of Starbucks espresso roast. :D

So at this point I started my "Magna Carta" and "Magna Carta II", as recommended by NP?NP! (I bought it last month, and it's completely awesome. Chris Baty is indeed funny.). I started a few character write-ups, actually wrote about five pages in my journal (I didn't mean to! It just came to me at about 4:00 this morning!), and started making a list of music to have on my playlist. First up: The Incredibles by Michael Giacchino, which will go well with my chosen plot of a strange mashup of... NCIS and The Incredibles. Yeah. Seriously. I'm kinda scared of how I might have come up with that. XD

Milk and I might make cookies specifically for me to eat. Though, the last time I made cookies, they turned out badly... Maybe not. My totem shall have to be my plastic trophy I got for finishing NaNo last year. It's currently sitting on my bookshelf, but I'll pull it down and set it where I can see it. ^_^

I've got a full pirate costume that I'll be wearing on and off this next month for various reasons. The hat's just the easiest thing to don when sitting and writing. And it's so cute on Jack Rabbit ;)

Some of you are crazily prepared. I've never written a 75k novel, so I definitely haven't written a 75,000 word outline!

I'm not really prepared. I thought I was, but then I went back to working with my dad to make money. And by the time I have freetime, like tonight, I read the forums and then go to bed. :) And some of my messages probably don't even make sense because I've already taken a few naps tonight.

2 days?! Uh-oh.

Oh god help me. I have 6 hours, you lot (most) still have a day. I've just read the first half of Chris Baty's No Plot? No Problem! And feel slightly calmer and infintely more excited, and am considering starting section two or leaving it as a procrastination tool for day one.

Found an old (exceptionally old) laptop. Have dusted it off and am charging the battery. Not sure whether to sleep tonight or keep the momentum going and start at midnight. Stocked up on chocolate and Chupa Chups, notepads, pens and a calendar outlining my word counts. And I have basically no plot, no characters (seriously, I dont even know their names :-/ Looks like I'm winging it.

Now I panic, and jump for joy :D Good luck to all

P.S. I am sticking with my latest plot.
P.P.S. Thanks for the music obi1

SGE - If I can add properly, then it's now after midnight for you, no? It's quarter to 10am here. I still need to prewrite before the midnight kickoff tonight, so if you're around, I can do a couple of word wars with you via the chatroom. :)

I'm kind of freaking out. I already have 75k for the fanfiction I'll be adding 50k to, and that first 75k needs serious rewriting. The FMC is changing completely, as are her early decisions. So how do I even proceed? I guess I pretend like she's already made those decisions and try to write from there. I guess.

The mythology, The Seitys is nowhere near planned enough. I'll probably be making much of it up as I go along.

Prewriting for Five Brothers and the narrative part of The Seitys is going to be the easy part.

It's tempting to simply take a story from Adopt-a-Plot over at NaNoWriMo.

It's almost 8:30 here where I am so I still have a full day ahead, think I'll catch up on some laundry and dishes and general clean up, I did some plotting previously and was actually wanting to sit down and start my story! I still feel I don't have enough plotted out, especially the middle parts but isn't that always the way? I did up floor plans months ago of where my story mostly takes place (it's a futuristic romance) so tried my hand at designing a space ship. Have no idea of the mechanical stuff so left room where I thought it should go. It was fun, in fact too much fun! Spent more time drawing than plotting :)

I'm unprepared. I have no title, characters, or plot. When I do outline and research before starting to write, I get blocked and can't do a thing. It happened for Juno, JAnuary, and Nano last year. So I said to hell with it. Once an idea strikes I'll go with it and plan along the way. Nothing else has worked. That is what I did with the second attempt for NANO 2005. The first 2 days I wrote and researched got up to about 5 K. IT went flat .. SO I started something else the 3rd day... it ended up being 60K words.

Go figure! O.o8-)
