A party! :)

Kira and Ian entered the building, red, blue, and pink lights flashing and moving everywhere. Kira looked at Ian, and he smiled. "It's okay. What could be wrong?" He said.
"Anything." Kira sighed, not even feeling comfortable around Ian.
He cocked an eyebrow. "Oh?" He was quite amused by this comment, for he had never thought of anything like this.
"Here: sit here," Ian guided Kira to a seat. "I'll go get you a drink."
"Okay." Kira sighed, waiting for disaster to strike at any moment.

Well? :)

The song was coming to an end, a relief for Finna. Not only were her shoes beginning to give her blisters but the boy she was dancing with, whose name she had forgotten, kept bashing into her. Finna managed to escape his grasp to find herself in close proximity to some chairs, with her feet off of the ground, she pulled out a phone. Nothing. She flipped it open and started texting. Where are you?

Kira looked over to see a girl texting nervously. She still hadn't gotten one, even at 12 (turning 13 in a few months), even though she was begging her mom for one. She considered talking to her. Ian would like me to, she thought, but I can't. I'm too nervous.
"Thanks," She said, hoping Ian wouldn't notice the girl.
"You're welcome." He smiled, then turned. Oh no, she thought, the girl's right over there!
"Hey, look," Ian said, grabbing Kira's attention once again. "There's a girl over there. Go say hi."
"...Ugh..." She groaned. "Fine, but come with me."
"Okay." She walked over to the girl, not noticing that Ian stopped before she had actually reached the girl.
"H-hello," Kira said. "Are you alright?"

(OOC- Jack is not mine, he belongs to Torchwood. Anything you recognise, therefore, is coming from fan-fiction and not my own mind. However, I'm writing him, and still need to understand him. Just to clarify, Serin's an alien, not just odd looking. xD)

Standing to the side of the room, watching lights move across the room, Serin wondered why he'd allowed Jack to convince him to come to this place. /Because you need to socialise more./ Where the exact words. It was too loud and warm, and he stood out. Just as he did in all the places Jack had insisted they visit, he feared that his green and orange scales were going to draw attention.

It was warm, even here on the outskirts of the place, and he took another sip of his drink. Something Jack had promised him was non-alcoholic. He wasn't sure how much he believed that. He half wanted to leave, but he didn't know the area well enough for that, so he stayed with Jack's coat, where the human had left it.

Jack, meanwhile, was oblivious to his companions discomfort. It had been too long since they'd just relaxed, too busy searching and running. They'd only just arrived, Jack was playing with the idea of pulling Serin up for a dance later, though he knew there'd be resistance to that. Noticing a small group, sitting a little way away, he crossed the room and held out a hand to shake hands with, any of them, actually. "Captain Jack Harkness. Nice to meet you." Serin had once told him that he was too direct, and scared people off. Jack prefered to see himself as friendly.

'Umm, hello?' Finna replied hesitantly to the girl who had appeared from nowhere. Finna looked around to see a boy a few steps behind, casting a supportive glance at the girl; although she did not notice. 'My friend is a no show, she said she would meet me here, but apart from that I'm fine.' She flashed her empty inbox to the girl. 'See, nothing. Not even a text to say she's not coming.' She had only agreed to come with her friend, Tabitha, as she had been bugging her for ages. The one reason Tabitha wanted to go to the party was so she was in with the chance of flirting with some unknowing boys. Finna did not socialise a lot, even talking was a big event which she didn't do much of, but the girl obviously had some confidence to come and talk to her, so she made an effort. 'I haven't seen you around here before, I'm Finna.'

"I'm Kira," She said to both of them, unsurely, then turned to Finna. "Ah, that sounds familiar." She turned to glare at Ian. "Although he's right there. He's not my boyfriend, though, so please don't ask."
She sighed, thinking about how 'unsocial', as Ian called it (was that even a word?), she was. "I travel around a lot. Usually to look for things...don't call me a dork, but I guess I'm a writer."
"Uh...Captain Jack? Is that your name?" She was kind of weirded out, for he suddenly just walked over to her and Finna. "Or...uh...do you just call yourself that? I will, if you'd like. But both of you could just call me Kira; as I said before." This is awkward, she thought.

Mut was waiting for Lily, listening to this conversation on his left where a bunch of nitwits were screwing basic conversation the hell up its a**. [[This, of course, being Mut's perspective, not mine ;)]] She was in the bathroom doing lady things and the dance floor was dying a writhing, feet-stomped death, women streaming off it by the minute holding their shoes or--more unluckily--their bestepped feet. The guys stood around and tried to dance with one another. Mut rolled his eyes to nobody, sipped his drink, and waited for the party to walk in.

It did, Lily never being one to hide out in a ladies' restroom. She took his arm, lithe in black sequins, and they went to dance. She had a particular dance, void of pelvis-grinds (that kind of dancing was property of Mut-sl*ts, she said) but still sexy, mesmerizing in the way that acrobats are mesmerizing, coming close to disaster on her stilettos, avoiding death/impalement by a nanosecond or two.

"Did you hear those people next to you?" she aimed at his right ear, the music pumping their blood. "They were pathetic!"

"You used to be just as bad, baby," he pointed out, and she shot him a glare, gesturing to her body as if to say Hey, man, look at /this/. A tentative subject, one he should not have brought up. Futile to ask himself when he would learn, when he had known her as the bosomy large-rumped flat-foot since childhood. His brain would sometimes fail to recognize her still, as a mother might look up and wonder where her baby went and whether the teenager in front of her had been there all along, or if she had just missed the transition.

But he'd seen the transition. He'd felt it, stroked it, comforted it, vomited with it, cried with it, shrieked in delight with it at the first size ten, eight, six, four. He didn't know what size four meant but it was good. It looked good. He was the man on whose arm rested the hottest chick in the room, and it felt good.

"Let's go talk to them, baby," she said, "rescue them. You take the girl, I'll take the dude."

"Which ones?"

"The ones who came in together, before I went to the bathroom. The miserable dodgy little chick and the guy who looks like he has a stick up his a**. Obviously the other two need to get together anyways." Lily rolled her eyes at Mut's ignorance, which he felt acutely and hid behind his awe of Lily's knowledge. It was instinctive to know these things, he guessed. It was a girl-thing.

Parting like the two foaming lines of a boat's wake, Lily headed for the boy and Mut went up to the girl. She was talking, spattering words like tequila after a rough night, but Mut caught the last of it clear enough: "...just call me Kira, as I said before..."

"Kira!" he said, aware of the rumble of his voice, the gloss of his hair, the admittedly sleek jacket Lily'd forced on him for tonight. "Kira, my dear, I was wondering if you would do me the honor of a dance?"

"Just call me Jack." Jack replied, his grin fading as the conversation became clearly awkward. "Sorry, was I interupting?" He asked the two women, "Serin says I'm not great at meeting new people, too upfront or something." He shrugged, gesturing vaguely to the alien in the corner before noticing the man standing next to him, talking to Kira.

[OOC- I've been messing around with Jack's personality after events, so this isn't really the exact Jack from TW. He'd never apologise for bursting into conversations. xD]

'There was nothing wrong with your introduction, Jack' Whilst another stranger approached the group, seeking the attention of Kira, Finna found time to check her phone, still nothing. She glanced around the room in search of the familiar face she hoped for, but only saw more and more people retreating from the dance floor. Her focus returned to that of the boy, Jack. She glanced over his shoulder to his friend Serin. 'Why doesn't Serin come over?'

"Who are you?" Lily asked, flashing eyes at the boy. He was sort of cute. In a vague way. Mut was cuter, maybe, but Lily was biased. It would depend on how he acted. Lily was confident tonight, at home in her slink and style, happy to be beautiful and happy to have Mut here to be beautiful with her. People told her she was vain--oh yes! she was!--but she was proud of herself. What she had done, what she was.

There was a time when she wouldn't have been here, let alone have spoken to a male besides Mut.

"I'm Lily," she went on, "and I think you should come dance with me."

[[Somethingwitty: I don't know if Ian and Kira are going to end up in love, but if you want to practice that, I thought maybe Lily could make Kira a but more jealous, or a bit more outgoing? Up to you :D]]

Serin glanced up when he heard Jack say his name from across the room. Noticing he was being spoken about, as Jack gestured, rather than called, he returned his attention to his drink and watching the people on the dancefloor.

"He's a little shy. Not really used to other people, back on Earth he sticks out. Doesn't like the attention. I just thought it'd be good to get him out and about for a little while. But, he doesn't exactly seem to be enjoying himself. Perhaps somewhere quieter would've been better." Jack considered, glancing back across the room to make sure Serin was okay. "I'll go and check he's okay in a little while, make sure he does some dancing or something. You here by yourself, or waiting for someone?" He asked, noticing Finna checking her phone.

Bunny entered without grandeur, wearing a suit. She had never liked dresses, and she thought this could be a good laugh. Hopefully, no one would upset her enough for her to go into 'Total Recluse' mode. She saw a group of people conversing and decided to join. Taking a deep breath, and wishing Burk was here, she walked over.
"Hello," she said, hoping she wasn't interrupting. "I'm Bridgit, but everyone calls me Bunny." She smiled what she hoped was a warm smile, but it could look forced. She never knew.

"Nice to meet you, Bunny." Jack replied to the new comer. "I'm Jack." He held a hand out to shake and smiled back.

Across the room, Serin sighed as he saw Jack get involved in conversation. They'd be there for a lot longer, by the looks of it. Standing, he folded the blue coat and considered leaving it over the back of his chair. Changing his mind, he took it with him, settled on the seat next to Jack and focused for a moment on not glaring at the older man.
"Serin, is this you actually trying to socialise?" Jack asked, mock suprise on his face.
"It's hot in here, and I don't know anyone. When are we going home?"
"Serin, don't be rude, we're meeting new people. This is Bunny and Finna, say hello." Jack chided gently. Sullenly, Serin nodded to the people he was being introduced to.

I don't dance with strangers that suddenly ask me if they want to dance. At least Jack and Finna actually introduced themselves." Then she thought about Ian, and cocked an eyebrow. He wasn't looking. I'll show him, she thought. "Maybe if you'd tell me a little about yourself, I could dance with you. I'm sorry about my rude introduction."

(Ouch, Kira's being mean. But protective. And, yes, Ian and Kira are supposed to fall in love.)

Mut frowned within himself and gave the girl a bright smile. He watched Lily being beautiful with the guy. She liked that sort of thing; she had spent too long degrading herself, and now she was making up for it. He felt a buoy of pride in his throat.

So he wouldn't frown. He would smile. Still, though...she was a touchy b****. [[If anyone has issues with profanity, just tell me. It's a habit of my characters and most often doesn't mean anything.]]

"I'm sorry, too. What's wrong with me? I should have realized. My name is Matthew. I..." What to tell? She didn't want to know anything about him, she was just nervous. "Come on, now," he said, moving closer and taking her hand in his. "You're a gorgeous girl and I just wanted to dance..."

No problems here with it. If anything, Jack's likely to join in if he gets his hands on any sort of alcohol. xD]

"I," Serin announced, rather overdramatically Jack thought, "will never understand humans. Your father gave you one name, and now calls you after an animal instead?" Neither Jack nor Serin seemed to hold much interest in the other events taking place near the table. Though Jack, as always, was doing his best to keep himself aware of the surroundings, just in case.

"Serin, you can't judge. You were hatched in a communal chamber on a spaceship and have never been to your species homeplanet." Jack reminded him.
"Details." Serin snapped back. "If your nickname's Bunny, I'll call you that. I'm just not completely used to the way language works for nicknames. While I was travelling, we mostly used peoples full names, if we knew them, or ranks and jobs otherwise. So, where are you from?"

"You people and your quaint little categories."

"Iowa? Oh, I thought you were from Earth. Nice planet, though, if you can survive the atomosphere. I've heard the falls are beautiful at sunset." Serin replied. Jack chuckled.
"Iowa's a place on Earth too, Serin. Not just a planet. I think it's more likely that Bunny means there. America, right?" He asked.

"Yup, Iowa, the 29th state into the U.S.A." She said. "So, then, where're you from?"
