Kathrine wasn't unnerved. Puzzled, maybe. Apprehensive, definitely, but only because she was in a strange place with strange people.

Nevertheless, she returned the smile, and clasped Flux's hand. "I'm Kathrine," she said. "Pleased to meet you." Kathrine almost went on, but decided against it. She did not want to waste time on small talk when there was a reason Flux had introduced herself.

Flux smiled again. Finally, someone who would talk to her. Straight to the point, too. A strong woman, she assumed, or one playing the part. Nevertheless, it was definitely worth asking. Flux indicated the seat next to her where she hoped Katherine would sit.

"Katherine, you and your friend..." she trailed off, unsure of the other name.

"Jonathon," Kathrine supplied. She glanced around the table, taking a better look at the faces, then to the seat next to Flux. Flux obviously wanted to talk, and Kathrine thought better sitting down. "You were saying?"

*100th post! :D Random... sorry*

Flux noted Katherine's glance at the others at the table and quickly introduced them. "Aero, Helena, and Static," she said, before continuing. "I heard you and your friend Jonathan talking about the MAS Ark, is there any chance you could tell me more about it?" She hoped she wasn't being too direct, for she had noted that Katherine hadn't had a drink. But she knew that she, Aero, and Helena didn't get drunk easily, and she trusted at least those two to keep their head.

*Heheh. Taht's fine. I had a celebration when I got my frequent poster status, to.*

Kathrine had nodded gravely to Aero, Helena and Static, but almost lost her composure when Flux mention the Ark. In crowded room, a table over, they had heard Kathrine and Jonathon's supposedly quiet conversation. Kathrine thought back over what had been said. Flux, at least, knew that this place was illegal for Kathrine and Jonathon, that they were expecting others, and that Jonathon would soon be leaving on the MAS Ark.

How did so much come out in the few seconds they had been here?

Kathrine smiled sweetly at Flux. "Was your own conversation so uninteresting that you had to resort to mine?" Kathrine paused before continuing. "The Ark is a colony ship." No harm in saying that much. Kathrine and Jonathon's apparel could easily be dated in a century where see-sailing ships were used. There was no way, nor need, for Flux and her friends to know this was the first inter-stellar spacecraft.

Kathrine subconsciously pulled her cloak tighter over her uniform.

*Ooh, Kathrine was a little feisty there. Kathrine, behave yourself.*

Flux looked over at Aero. They had a feeling Katherine was leaving something out. A strong feeling. They had read about the Ark somewhere... But where had it been? Sometime in their time. In a library somewhere, before the, well, no need to talk about that now.

"That much can be assured," Aero spoke up, "but what we are looking for is details." He hoped that was Flux's intent, which it was.

Kathrine sighed. It was easier to hide something when you didn't know you were hiding it. She had seen more in Flux's glance to Aero than most would.

She decided to avoid the question with a reasonable one of her own. "Why do you wish to know?"

Kathrine locked eyes with Flux. Flux obviously didn't know how to get information from a conversation, if that was her intent. "And if I don't want to say?"

Flux almost laughed. She had to stop being so direct with people. She sighed. She missed her crew. Almost to the point that she would be willing to go back.

Almost.

The IGP must have found them out by now, and would use them as bait to bring her home. No. She would stay running. It was that or a prison cell. She had kept out of them up until this point, and that wasn't likely to change.

Flux smiled vaguely. "Then we aren't going to get anywhere, are we?"

For a split second Kathrine wondered if this was more serious than Flux had intended. Why was she unwilling to walk away from this conversation? [probably because her author is having fun:)]

Kathrine leaned back. "Perhaps. We can sit here staring at each other until Jonathon gets tired of me talking with you and brakes it up, or we could move on to a different topic. Where are y'all from?"

[Same here :)]

Flux let the subject drop, she would look this up later. "In the 23rd century," she began, "we have a small ship that we live on, the four of us."

Aero added, "we travel around a lot, so we don't really have a 'home' persay, but the ship is close enough."

23rd century? Her ancestors had been on the Ark for it's first voyage all through that century. That was also when contact with Earth had been lost. Kathrine was left wondering which 'ship' meaning Flux was using.

"Hmm. I'm an explorer by trade, so I know how that is. How long have you four been together?"

*I have chores to do now, so I'll be slow in responding. Just a heads up.:)*

[Don't worry, I'm volunteering at my mom's work, so I'm doing their paperwork in between posts...]

"Well," Flux began, they hadn't every really bothered to count the time. "It hasn't been long, has it?"

"No, it couldn't have been," Aero said to her, then turning to Katherine. "Flux and I have known each other for a few years, but all four of us... It's been less than a year. Hasn't it?"

"Yeah," Helena said, "remember the calendar when we stopped on that planet?"

"Which one?" Flux asked. Helena just shrugged. Things had started to blend together after the first month or so.

Well, that clarified the meaning of the word "ship." Kathrine was puzzled, though. "Why would you not keep track of time? Especially since you travel."

Then Kathrine smiled to herself, remembering how she had lost track of time while on Tythese-III. But she doubted these four could have been doing something as wild as she had.

*I'm back:)*

Now this was feeling like an inside joke. "I see. . ."

"Kat?" Jonathon was standing behind her.

She turned. "Hi, Jonathon. I've been talking."

"I saw that. Don't you, uh," Jonathon faltered.

"Trust me, it's fine."

"Trust you! How many times did you almost get yourself killed in the last month?" Jonathon looked exasperated.

Kathrine grinned and shrugged. "Lost count after the fourth time."

Flux quickly realized that Katherine hadn't caught their humor... Or she just didn't think it funny. Didn't have the time to keep time. Or maybe the drink was just getting to her head. She put down her glass.

Flux and two of her companions laughed at Katherine's last remark, but Static remained silent, sipping his beer.

Aero turned to Jonathan, and, wondering how he would react, extended his hand to him. "Aero."

Jonathon gripped Aero's hand, still miffed my Kathrine's response. "Jonathon. . . although my yakking friend has probably told you that." Jonathon looked at the rest of the table.

"Flux, Helena, and Static," Kathrine said.

*Phew. Gotta leave for a movie. I'll be back (again) in a bit.*

[I'm about to go to lunch, so I'll be gone for about an hour. :( I'll hurrry back though :)]

Aero smiled. "Yes, of that she has been sure to inform us. But she hasn't said much else of consequence. Though, since we are from different times, I doubt it would have any effect."

"Unless what she said ruined the time-space-continum," Helena offered.

"Like that's ever going to happen," Aero said sarcastically.

(OOC: Jack does not belong to me, he belongs to Torchwood. However, I'm playing around with his personality and am still getting to know him. Still, I claim no ownership, sadly. Also, Serin's an alien, cold blooded, green scales with orange highlighting. I'm just bad at dropping character description into posts...)

Throwing open the door to the pub they'd come to, Serin made straight for the fire. A long, blue coat was wrapped around his shoulders, soaked through.
"I told you it was too cold." He snapped at the man who'd entered with him and paused to close the door behind them.
"It's not my fault you're too much of a wuss to deal with a little bit of wind and rain." The other man threw back, heading for the bar in an attempt to find something warm for them both to drink. When he'd returned, Serin glared at him, but accepted the mug.
"I'm not a wuss." He muttered, balling up the woolen coat and flinging it at Jack. "I'm cold blooded. Unlike mammals, I can not regulate my body temperature." Rather dramatically, Jack threw himself into the chair next to Serin, pushing the coat towards the fire and shaking the remaining water from his hair and across the room.
"Sorry." He said to the room as a whole, almost as an afterthought, on realising that he may have splashed the people around them. Serin rolled his eyes and focused on warming up.

Flux jumped when the water fell onto her shoulder. She had heard the two enter, but not expected to be doused by rain. She brushed the liquid off her shoulder and turned to them. One of them was very interesting. An alien of sorts, maybe. But she didn't want to think about aliens now, there were too many memories that she thought she had left behind, yet, given the opportunity...

"Cold-blooded?" she turned around to face Serin, "well that's intersting. You aren't human, are you? Don't worry, neither am I. Not entirely, at least." She paused momentarily, "oh, I'm Flux," she extended her hand in greeting.

"I'm Serin." He replied, shaking the extended hand. Jack, having realised that his coat was made almost entirely of wool, and dangerously close to fire, was trying to find somewhere to hang it up where it could dry.
"Sorry about Jack. I shouldn't have to apologise for him, but..." He shrugged. More than once he'd found the pair of them in trouble for Jack's behaviour. "Not human, no." He gestured vaguely to the reptilian scales covering his body. "Nice to meet someone else not human, though. I don't suppose you've got any information about the Universe at the moment? We've been stuck, and I don't like being cut off from news. Or are you from Earth?" Serin tried to fix his origional assumption, that not human meant not from Earth.

Flux watched Jack hurry about, looking for a spot to hang his coat. Was he human? she wondered. "There's a coat rack over there," she offered, indicating a hook on the wall near her table. Then, turning back to Serin, "I don't think what I know about the Universe would apply to what you know. This pub here, it's between times. We're all from different worlds, different years. Do you catch my drift?" She knew this all sounded like baloney, but a look around the room was enough to confirm it.

Jack waved his thanks from across the room, walking back over and hanging the coat up carefully. Moments later, he was walking back towards the bar. Serin considered saying something, but decided against it. If he got drunk, the immortal human could make his own way home.
"I think I understand." Serin replied, thinking on it for a moment rather than dismissing it as rubbish. "Different realities, that sort of thing. What exists in my reality may not exist in yours, an vice versa?" Before he'd met Jack he'd have dismissed it as rubbish. Now, however, very few things surprised him. Odd events had a habit of finding Jack.
